  1. I really enjoyed this pod cast. I’ve had quite a few questions that you two answered very well and I now have a better understanding of. Thanks!

  2. This podcast was incredibly informative! I was one of those people who developed hypothyroidism after going too low carb. I wish I had known this info! I’m on Armour now, plus I’m adding healthy carbs back in and feel much better. Chris Kresser is the smartest guy in the paleo-sphere and I always learn so much. Thanks!

      1. Jimmy do you have any posts you can direct me to that discuss this concern: low carb and hypothyroidism? From what I understand, low carb doesn’t cause hypothyroid, but can exacerbate the symptoms, therefore should be used with caution. I have a low carb friend who is newly diagnosed hypothyroid and am searching for some info for her.
        Thanks!

          1. More great info with this link. I can say for certain for me that my low T3 level was not caused by lowering calories. I increased my calories when I went low-carb because if the addition of fat to my diet. I tracked it all on a fitbit.
I believe that my adrenals were taxed by having low glycogen stores, which impacted my thyroid.
Don’t get me wrong, I still eat low carb now (paleo), but not VERY low carb. I have added back in some berries and home baked coconut products. I feel much better now!
Hypothyroidism runs in my family, and I think going too low carb brought it out in me.
I was also one of the people who had increased cholesterol levels after going too low carb and developing hypothyroidism. After just 3 months on Armour, my total cholesterol dropped 113 points! (Down to the low 200’s with fantastic ratios, yay!)

          2. This was great, really got me questioning what I currently believe in, which I love, because our minds must stay open to change as we learn more and more. Where I am completely guilty of doing low carb wrong is counting and reducing calories. While I haven’t had any signs or symptoms of low T3 levels (or any associated lab results), I know reducing my cals and dabbling in some intermittent fasting has been unnecessary. I think its safe to say two things:
That doing low carb paired with inadequate calories or fat is not the ideal approach and can have adverse effects on how the body functions.
That ultimately we are only beginning to scratch the surface of this wonderful system of ours and everyone is going to have to trust their own experimentation with their bodies instead of looking for answers within studies that (in my opinion) are being held for too short of a duration to draw any definite conclusions from.
            Thanks again Jimmy!

  3. I would like to listen to Chris Kressor discuss the hypothyroidism and low carb problem with Steve Phinney. One of them is getting it wrong.

      1. Also, this video had a lot of problems with continuous streaming. Not sure if it was just me, but it was the same issue via youtube channel.
