One of the biggest unspoken, taboo topics that you rarely hear discussed within any health community is the subject of eating disorders. Anorexia, bulimia, binge-eating and more are probably a lot more common than we’d like to admit. And when you add other addictive, compulsive actions to this, it can be a recipe for health disaster all under the guise of becoming healthier. This is something our interview guest today knows more than a thing or two about. Her name is Kaila Prins from the “In My Skinny Genes” blog and she spent 13 years of her life attempting to battle both an eating disorder and exercise addiction with a variety of strategies before finding the Paleo diet. She is the silky-smooth voice behind the blog “In My Skinny Genes” and the deeply philosophical health podcast called “Finding Our Hunger” helping others seeking solace from their addictions.

Listen in as Jimmy and Kaila talk about her personal journey with addiction, how she endured through yo-yo diets, calorie counting, full-fledged anorexia, and even veganism for so many years of her life, how the Paleo template helped her successfully kick start and sustain her recovery, why she thinks the Paleo community should start focusing on helping people learn how to eat properly rather than weight loss or perfection, why she began her blog and how it has morphed into what it is now, her work with fellow actress Ito Aghayere on the most unique podcast in the Paleo community, how she is helping others learn how to beat their addictions as a health coach, and so much more! This was a deep conversation with someone who has become a great friend to Jimmy Moore over the past year. Share this podcast with anyone you know struggling with an eating disorder and exercise addiction.

  1. Hi Jimmy,

That was an amazing and very timely podcast!
I’m struggling with anorexia, orthorexia and body dysmorphia but is on the path of recovery. I can’t emphasise how true it is what Kaila and you say about that we indeed to focus on feeling well instead of looking at the stupid the scale – its not as easy as it sounds.

I don’t want to keep on rambling. I just want to say thanks a lot for doing the podcast, showing that this is not only about obesity. There is so much more to the ‘health spectrum’.

    Best regards,

    Thomas Hemming

    1. Thanks Thomas! Kaila is an amazing example of how it’s not impossible to escape the trap. You’re following in her footsteps my friend. NEVER GIVE UP!

      1. Thanks Jimmy. What I especially liked and what I meant about the ‘health spectrum’ is that weight is a very poor measure for health. Something that you have also been mentioning more and more, which I have really noticed and started to think about. And as Kaila said that she weighs more than previously but she has never been happier. I completely subscribe to that, when I was at 108 poiunds I felt the absolute worst I’ve ever done despite my weight being the lowest ever (which we’re all so mindlessly striving for).

Again, thanks Jimmy for also raising this subject!

          1. As I said in response to your comment on my blog, Thomas, I REALLY appreciate your sharing your story with us. I’m so, so glad that my story resonated with you, and that you’re working toward finding your own healthy place on the “health spectrum.” You’re making great strides, and I hope that you will be able to use your story to help others who are struggling too. The more people we bring into this community (and out of the darkness that is ED), the better all of our lives get! Thank you again for reaching out–and stay hungry!!
