British cholesterol skeptic, author and documentary filmmaker Justin Smith is our guest today in Episode 611 of The Livin’ La Vida Low-Carb Show with Jimmy Moore!

Fans of this podcast have long known about the lies we’ve been told about the role of cholesterol in heart disease. Conventional wisdom tells us that the higher your total cholesterol, the greater risk you have of getting a heart attack and developing atherosclerosis. Therefore, pharmaceutical companies argue, higher lipid levels require medications like statin drugs to bring them down to “safe” levels. HOGWASH!

You may recall hearing Justin Smith on this podcast previously in Episode 438 discussing his book $29 Billion Reasons to Lie About Cholesterol: Making Profit By Turning Healthy People Into Patients. But he was ready to take the message from his book and bring it to life in a documentary film as he shared with us in Episode 504 in late 2011. Thus was birthed a documentary that is now available to the public called $TATIN NATION. You can download $TATIN NATION for streaming rental RIGHT NOW below:

We were very honored to have this podcast recognized with a “Special Thanks” in the closing credits of the documentary:

Featuring lots of bona fide experts on cholesterol and statins that have been featured previously on “The Livin’ La Vida Low-Carb Show” podcast (including Dr. Malcolm Kendrick, Dr. Barry Groves, Dr. Natasha Campbell-McBride and Dr. Uffe Ravnskov), $TATIN NATION is an engaging, fast-paced and informative just over hour-long documentary that will keep you captivated from start to finish. Listen in as Jimmy speaks with Justin about his film, what he is hoping to communicate through it and his best hopes and dreams for the project. ENJOY!

  1. An amazing podcast Jimmy. Mr Smith really knows his onions. Looking forward to the DVD – I may get an extra for my OH’s doctor. It makes me so angry that the medics and the pharma ‘industries’ rely on the public to be so swayed by the flannel of their ‘hypotheses’ and in thrall of the white coat that they will fall into line and swallow their drugs without a second thought. It also makes me very angry that doctors receive a bonus for prescribing statins (QOF points) whether a patient needs them or not and that any patient who refuses their doctors ‘advice’ can be struck off the practice’s list. Thank goodness I’m paleo and will never have to darken my GPs door again.

  2. Who in their right mind could – or would even want to – eat this way for the rest of their lives? I think CarbSane is right, Jimmy – this is definitely eating disorder territory (Dr. Kurt Harris said something similar as well, I believe). Of course it’s resulting in weight loss, but that’s only temporary – just like all of your past challenges (‘Egg Fest’, anyone?). It’s simple: Eat less, move Moore! Oh…and come klean on Krusegate!!

  3. Wow! Loved the Interview with Justin Smith and Justin if you are listening I cannot say enough about your Documentary….mahalo for making it! I have linked to it for my readers at my blpg. This is for everyone to see!!! I wish you HUGE success with it!
