  1. Robb refers to Palmitic Acid as a short chain fatty acid, but with 16 carbons it is a LONG chain fatty acid. Short chain FA are <8, medium chain FA 8-12, long chains 14-24.

All lipids are a mixture of different types, and each type has different metabolic effects. Even if Pamitic Acid were a problem, the other fatty acids probably cancel out any bad effects. Olive oil, which we are endlessly told to consume, is 14% Palmitic. It's also interesting that human milk fat is 20-25% Palmitic.

I suspect that one day we're going to look back and realize that most of the saturated fat bashing was wrong-headed.

  2. Did i hear Robb right? – in response to Jimmy mentioning Michael Phelps eating 10,000 grams of carbs per day he said that consuming huge amounts of carbs was harmful (as a type 1 diabetic following Dr Bernstein i agree) but then to prove his point he said that Mark Spitz was only 15 years older than Phelps but looked ancient. Hello!!! Mark Spitz is 60 years old, 35 years older than Phelps at 25, and still looks in good shape for a pensioner.

  3. Great interview!! I can tell that he is passionate about this! I need to start listening to his podcast, too.

So much interesting information, so little time…

He did get Marks Spitz age quite wrong, though, lol.

  4. It is reported that Michael Phleps consumes about 10-12000 calories daily. If he were to consume 10,000 grams of Carbs daily that would equal 40,000 calories daily because there are 4 calories in 1 gram of carb. He does consumes massive carbs because his training and energy expenditure necessitates it. This is common with endurance athletes. If he didn’t he would not be able to compete or train at that high of level. The average Joe doesn’t need such high levels of carb. And yes, Mark Spitz was 15 in 1965 so he is in his 60’s.

    +1

  6. Totally awesome interview!

Robb, where do I find some more info about that new Huntington research? I’ve been googling a ton now, but I can’t find anything. Do they look for participants?

  7. Great interview! It inspired me all the way through until I realized that if I took out eggs, dairy, nuts, soy, and legumes (which I eat very little of), what would I be left with???? I would not know what to eat as a snack!!!!

  8. Not sure why the photo of my hubby showed up on my post….hummmmm…..computers and their bizarre automations…GEEZ!

    1. Great interview! Shellie…I was wondering what was left to eat too. Jimmy must have gasped when he said eggs! Your husband’s photo showing up gave me a good laugh this late at night.

  9. Thank you for another great interview. I guess I was one of the two you mentioned 🙂 who had never heard of Robb Wolf (probably because I’m older and not into bodybuilding – just good health.)

A big bonus for me was the new source of podcasts. I go through a lot of them in a week and was in great need of some quality alternatives besides yours, Jimmy.

For others like me in search of good podcasts, I’d like to mention the podcasts/archives of Dr. Hoffman http://www.wor710.com/pages/46261.php?contentType=34&contentId=794
whose easy style and up-to-date information as well as answers to listeners’ questions I like very much. He is an alternative type MD who also appreciates lower carb but likes to tailor the diet to individual needs for his clients in his NYC clinic). I hope it’s ok to mention his name. Might even be a good candidate for a future podcast on LLLC.

The link above is from WOR but here is Dr. Hoffman’s own website link http://www.drhoffman.com/page.cfm/12
