Hello and welcome back to The Livin’ La Vida Low-Carb Show with Jimmy Moore! Shane, known affectionately now as “The People’s Chemist,” is now a natural health advocate and has written a brand new book called Over the Counter Natural Cures: Take Charge of Your Health in 30 Days with 10 Lifesaving Supplements for under $10. 1. Just watched one of Shane’s You Tube video’s and found it incredibly offensive. I have been living a (strict) very high (good) fat, low carb, clean lifestyle for about 3 years now. The first video I chose to view was labeled Natural Thyroid Cure, I was quite intrigued with the title, thyroid issues run in my family (mother/sister/nephew/niece) and although my test always come back normal I suspect from some of my symptoms that I have a “sluggish thyroid” and wanted to hear about an amazing “Natural Cure” a “People’s Chemist” would have to offer. What I got was a rude and inappropriate commentary about donut consumption. I can’t remember the last time I had a donut (maybe 15 years ago). I was all set to go out and buy his book but I’m having second thoughts now, what kind of Natural Cure did he offer me? NONE! If this video is any indication, his book would probably be more of the same.
I really think he needs to hire an editor to screen his videos before posting. He has a book to sell and even though he may have something important to share people are likely to throw away the baby with the bathwater, like me. I’m not sure I want to even listen (or read) any more, I feel kind of dirty after viewing this one. Going to go take a shower!

  2. THANKS for your comments! I agree we shouldn’t throw the baby out with the bath water, but a lot of people are attracted to the message Shane shares in both his videos and in this interview. Some people find me offensive in some ways and it’s just a matter of personal preference style. It shouldn’t stop me or Shane from doing our thing and trying to reach as many people as possible, though. Thank you for your opinions.

  3. Jimmy you can be a little annoyingly ‘too happy’ at times but never offensive. I could never see you implying that someone who thought they might have a real health issue was actually inflicted with “Fat Cow Syndrome”. I have pretty thick skin but this one is really bad. I do want to listen to more to see if they run in the same vein but I have to summon up my courage first. If you’re a friend of his I’d recommend that he take this video down, the sooner the better.

  4. PWVEGAS, I absolutely agree with you 100%. Yes, Shane can do whatever he wants and however he wants to do it, but that video is not only offensive to some people who does have legitamate thyroid issues but it is quite unprofessional as well. I am quite a conservative guy and could care less how Shane conducts his business or how many followes yhe has got, but it is insane to dismiss the fact that there are many, many people who follow low carb lifestyle to a T and see no results as far as weight loss. Thyroid insufficiency is a well researched subject and is a proven fact. Are there people who claim they have thyroid problems while swallowing donuts? Absolutely! And????? There are tons of people who follow low carb religiously and lose no weight. Do we start dismissing everyone as weak who doesnt show results. gee I havent heard that before! Shane seems to have all the answers in theory, very convenient! I did read his website and there are many inconssitent and foolish marketing tools he uses, even though the overall message is quite healthy. He posted an inteview with Obama to attract the audeince on his website and it is quite scandalous, however the Obama he is talking about could be his next door neighbor. There are other wise remarks as well. He worked as a chemist for a pharmaceutical company and then realized it was unethical. Then he went on to totally dismiss drugs of all sorts as means to mask the symptoms, he even dismisses psychiatric drugs as unnecessary evil. Give me a break, Shane. I thought you were a chemist not a psychiatrist. I heard thast message before from Tom Cruize that women dont suffer from postpartum depression. Oh those eveil pharma business! Come on now. How convenient it is ti trash big Pharma after you work for them, used them, made your dollar and opened your business with those money to trash them to no end. Meanwhile there are tons of useful and needed drugs out there for people who need them. One woman asked Shane on his website how to treat her uncontrallable blood pressure naturally and he never got bacik to her. I have no doubt that cinammon helps out with diabetes but to say cinnamon is a natural spice that helps regulate blood sugar on cell level, give me a break! i have a degree in scinece as well and am involved in medical feild. When someone breaks a leg we go to a surgeon not a chemist, there is a reason for that. There are a lot of wrong with Big Pharma, but because of this wrong called GRRED porgression evolved as well. Wasnt it for greed lots more people would have died from simple infections like humans did in a recent past. I dont remember cinnamon or spinach or castro oil helping treat millions of wounded soldiers during World War II untill penicilin was discovered. There are millions of cancer patients and AIDS patients that are still alive today after many years thanks to those eveil BIG PHARMA! Lets not be so naive and make a scapegoat out of BIG Pharma. There is a balance in everything and everything has its bad and good. I just dont like when people use incredilous claims for dramatic effect to make it more attractive thats all!

  5. Shane was much more powerful in his delivery during the podcast interview. I enjoyed the interview a lot. I still think he needs to be a bit more careful making broad generalization when it comes to diseases and people. Otherwise his message is pretty much solid.

  6. I had to watch the video just to see what all the fuss was about. Wow…you people are way too sensitive if you took offense to that. I do believe Shane’s video addresses the MAJORITY of people who blame their weight on thyroid issues and ignore the fact that they consume way too many junk carbs. It wasn’t a commentary on donuts. That was just one example….he also mentioned juice and diet soda. I personally took it to mean control your diet, control your thyroid. Should work for most people…so sounds like free advice to me! Now, on to the interview with Jimmy…

  7. I have to agree with Angie on this one. And Vadim, if you want to be taken seriously, I suggest you tone down the rant, write it out, check spelling and capitalization, and use paragraphs. If you have a “degree in science,” I hope it came with some basic writing instruction. More evidence for the importance of keeping humanities in the curriculum.

  8. Thanks Jimmy, Great interview!
Just more reinforcement of what I have found to be true for my health the last many years. Always good to hear others that have found the TRUTH. Everything you both talked about is also my experience.

  9. Louise, I hope this will correct my credibility. First of all English happens to be my fifth language. I also speak fluent Russian, Polish, Spanish and French. So if you want to compete with me on that front be my guest. I hope you speak any other language than English. I can also be quite savvy in humanities as well even though this is not about me or wasnt about me or English or my credibility or my sensitivity or anything I or me or personal. So get your facts straight!! But since you were the one making it personal let me respond. This is not about English language, grammar or spelling. This is about science and facts. And you dont seem to get it. I wasnt appologizing for people who consume large amounts of junk and then blame their weight issues on thyroid problems. But to make broad generalizations as Shane did is simply naive. Shane seems to be a great example of what low carb can do and I liked his videos. But in this particular video I was talking about he got it all wrong. I do have immense background in science and I do know my physilogy. Shane can do what Shane wants to do and you miss can openly disagree with me too. Thats what i love about this country. I was voicing my opinion and defending millions, yes, you heard me correctly millions of people who are misdiagnosed. There are millions of people who have whats known as hypothyroidism or dysfunctional TSH uptake mechanism and simple blood test that measures TSH, T3 and T4 is simply not of diagnostic quality. So unless you know people who are following low carb diets to perfection and still cant lose weight, you have no idea how prevalent thyroid gland insufficiency might be. I for one do not have that problem and I do blame my weight issues on my lifestyle but it is grossly unfair to those of low carbers who do have thyroid problems to hear Shane say its all about donuts. I wish you never have to deal with people labeling you weak, undisciplined or lacking motivation when you might have undelying illness that precludes it from solving it. I just abhor when people generalize, stereotype or make boad statements. Shane seems to be very knowledgable, articulate young guy but few of us like to be fair and honest to point out mistakes even when its someone whos philosophy we tend to agree with. And if you want to educate me on humanities find out who I am and what I am all about first. Then again its easy to see why you would agree with Shane. You seem to be very fast on pointing out my weakness in humanity based on what I wrote. Never mind that I was very busy when i was writing it. I am sure people knew exactly what i wrote. But since you felt so compelled to point it out, I do appologize for you feeling offended.

  10. So I guess I really stirred the pot here….which was probably my intent.

First of all I loved the interview with Jimmy, although it really did not provide any new information and was really just a teaser promotion for his new book, Shane was preaching to the choir, and anyone who is out there spreading the word about a low carb lifestyle is a friend of mine.

I am not conservative, in fact quite the opposite. My favorite newscast shows are Jon Stewart and Bill Mayer (Fox News makes me want to heave). I have since read some of Shane’s blogs and found them quite amusing. “Pharmaceutical fellatio is the act (or art) of hyping drugs orally to help Big Pharma achieve orgasmic profits.” Now that’s funny!

What I didn’t think was so funny was the misleading title of the You Tube Video “ Natural Thyroid Cure” which is quite misleading and I do not think serves his purpose. And from the comments on You Tube I am not alone. 95% were negative and the rest were basically off topic (hey dude what kind of car are your driving?… and what was that song in the background?) Apply those percentages to the approx. 4200 views and it can be kind of staggering especially if you follow the rule of ten (they tell ten people and they tell ten people, etc. etc.) That’s a lot of people.

Which was my whole point. He has a very important message and anyone who’s first contact with him is this particular video means he may be losing a huge potential audience.

Since the video is really just a rant against carbohydrates and not a Natural Cure for Thyroid a more honest title might be “Donuts Do Not Help Thyroid”.

And yes Angie I did try and simplify it by only mentioning donuts….for the record I do not consume juice or diet soda either.

  11. I’m just now catching up on all these podcasts. 🙂 I haven’t seen any of Shane’s YouTube vids or been able to check out his website just yet, but I do plan to.

Not really any new information but it is always nice to hear from others how they came to the conclusions they have about the low carb lifestyle and the perverted information being put out by the AHA, NIH, pharmaceutical industry, etc. I did enjoy the podcast.

I would have liked to have heard more information on the supplements and Shane’s thoughts on other supplents, etc. but understand that “teasers” are an important part of marketing. 😉

  12. This is one of those podcasts where you need to sit down with a notebook, for it really is college level stuff….wonderful…it is also refreshing to see someone who has written information that we can use that is inexpensive….it is perhaps the most irritating thing to realize you’d like to buy/subscribe to something only to find it would be a “budget buster”…..I plan to listen to this again sometime soon…
