I follow this blog in addition to the blogs of Mark Sisson, Mike Eades, Vin Miller, Tim Naughton, and some others and I was very pleased to see an interview with Dr. Briffa as I follow his blog on my google reader as well! Great to see all of you collaborating! I love his blog because he’s always taking the latest studies and putting them into layman’s terms!
I agree Andrea! It’s one of the reasons why I wanted him on my show! 🙂
Another great interview! I can’t believe his suggestions about vegetarians–but having lived with the brain-fog of low-fat, high-carb, I know he’s right.
Louise, the man has been through the wringer with the veg-heads, so I tend to agree with much of what he says.
First, let me mention that out of 10 tries in 2 days to get Dr. Briffa’s website I only succeeded once – long enough to sign up for his free newsletter. But tonight I tried to download his welcoming podcast and my free ebook and again got an error page saying the address does not exist – which I know is wrong as I DID get on once. Is his site just being overwhelmed by too many hits as a result of this interview? Or am I the only one having trouble….
Now to the interview which was excellent and informative as always. What caught my attention was when he said that there is no one diet for everyone, which I believe. For instance I’ve heard repeatedly that eating NO cholesterol does NOT affect or lower your cholesterol. But I found just the opposite to be true. I went on the McDougall vegan starch based diet and my cholesterol went from years of 250-280 down to 177 in just 3 months and then to 155. I stayed on the diet over a year. I stopped the vegan diet because I was getting underweight even though I ate all the time – and as Jimmy says you’re always hungry and looking for something to eat. Before that I guess my eating habits tended to be more like mediterranean – always homecooked – with lots of grains/vegetables and fruits but also butter and meat.
Jimmy I am so glad to have found your site and the information that comes with it. I’ve been looking for answers for a long time. Vegetarians/vegans tend to say that low carb people don’t have any proof that there way of eating works and is healthy, but I have found out otherwise. THANK YOU!
Rosemarie, I’m so glad to have you in my audience. 🙂
Wow, I could listen to him forever. He has the knowledge, he has a nice voice, he seems quite humble. I’m tempted to buy his book, but Jimmy, you already had me buy plenty of books which I haven’t caught up with yet 🙂
Loving the podcast so far, I’m so glad I stumbled onto your site. Jimmy was a great quest also.
Tim, I agree. The man is a wealth of knowledge and so very passionate about it. THANKS David!
