When Gary Taubes and Dr. Peter Attia decided to create the nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization called the Nutrition Science Initiative (NuSI) in 2012, it was their goal to provide a funding resource for creating well-designed human studies of the carbohydrate-insulin hypothesis. To add an extra layer of credibility to the research they’d be funding, Taubes and Dr. Attia asked researchers who have exhibited opposition to the low-carb, high-fat, ketogenic diet to do the investigations. One such well-known researcher is the Senior Investigator at the National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases named Dr. Kevin Hall who published his NuSI-funded study published in American Journal of Clinical Nutrition entitled Energy expenditure and body composition changes after an isocaloric ketogenic diet in overweight and obese men. Of course, after this interview Dr. Hall did with Dr. Yoni Freedhoff about the study basically declaring the low-carb theory is total bunk, it became apparent we needed to get him on The LLVLC Show to answer some concerns about his research. Listen in as Jimmy and Dr. Hall go back and forth on the finer details of this study that many are calling flawed. Listen in and decide for yourself.
