If the low-carb, high-fat, ketogenic message is ever going to break through into the mainstream in a big way, it very well may take some major paradigm shifts in public policy and law. That’s the passionate desire of an attorney named Tony Martinez whose life was changed after working as a legal consultant with the late, great Dr. Robert C. Atkins and appearing on his popular radio show in the 1990’s. After suffering a heart attack and being diagnosed as a Type 2 diabetic, Tony knew he needed to get serious about his health by embracing the ketogenic lifestyle in earnest. His A1c has dropped from 7 to 5.5 and his cardiologist said his heart health has completely turned around.
Listen in as Jimmy and Tony talk about how he legally consulted Dr. Atkins in the 1990’s, how he used to appear on Dr. Atkins’ radio show in New York City, how Dr. Atkins coined the term “diabesity” and got the attention of the Health & Human Services Secretary before Dr. Atkins’ untimely death, how “classy” Dr. Atkins was with a very strong character, how Dr. Atkins helped reverse his diabetes and heart disease by eating a low-carb, high-fat diet, how watching Cereal Killers and reading my two books last year gave him the confidence to go ketogenic, the frustration with doctors who don’t give low-carb the proper credence, how the system is still set up for disease and obesity failure, why insurance companies aren’t more pro-low-carb, how an insurance company called Old Mutual Health sponsored an LCHF event in South Africa earlier this year, how your metabolism can become so deranged to the point that you have to cut your carbs well below the recommended levels, what could be done from a class action lawsuit level, how the Internet has helped push along the message, why getting this information translated into other languages is sorely needed, how Cuba is fascinated by the low-carb message as big lovers of pork, how it’s going to take courage from patients and medical professionals alike to change, how “the dark side of human nature” makes it difficult to change, and why sugar is the starting point in pushing for change.

Does this guy have a GoFundMe site, or some other fundraising page that we ketoers can donate to? He’s going to need some cost defraying, and we’d be glad to help!
I’m glad we’re taking the Hillary tact, and changing laws instead of hearts.

Regarding getting insurance companies to accept higher cholesterol numbers. I suspect the insurance company doesn’t really care either way. They are in the business of analyzing statistics to determine the odds and then paying out appropriately. (Yeah, they’re basically bookies…)
The reason they have the cholesterol limits they do is because the research they are reading indicates that this is the appropriate thing to do. Once they start seeing (peer-reviewed clinical trial) research indicating that high cholesterol (or perhaps the type of cholesterol) is not a risk factor they will change their policy without being asked.
Agreed. I’ve attempted to show this data to some but they aren’t convinced. It will take an outcry from many for them to change.
