I might just buy a copy of her book for a neighbor of mine whose motto is “not without a coupon.” I spent 3 hours at her house going through her cupboards, and pointing out the amounts of sugar and carbs she consumes as a result of her coupons. Her head was spinning! She also has no idea about marketing claims, and though she did good by buying the “lower sodium” version of Quaker Oats (of course, she had a coupon). I asked her, “Lower compared to WHAT?” she still had a container of the original Quaker Oats, and I implored her to check for herself–sure enough, the original WAS lower in sodium than the new stuff. That’s when i taught her a small sliver of critical thinking, and to check the nutrition facts box first before buying.
