Canadian naturopathic physician Dr. Kate Rhéaume-Bleue is our guest today in Episode 703 of “The Livin’ La Vida Low-Carb Show.”
[powerpress]
We’ve all heard about the benefits of supplementing our diet with things like calcium and high-dose Vitamin D. But have you ever stopped to think about whether that is really necessary to attain optimal health? Even more importantly, what if taking those actions actually can be more harmful than helpful? This is something that motivates a naturopath named Dr. Kate Rhéaume-Bleue who has been working voraciously in recent years to spread the truth about a little-known vitamin hardly anyone is talking about–Vitamin K2. She’s the author of a fabulous book on the subject called Vitamin K2 and the Calcium Paradox: How a Little-Known Vitamin Could Save Your Life which throws the door open on chronic health issues like osteoporosis, heart disease and even wrinkles. Listen in as Jimmy and Dr. Kate take an even closer look at the vital role that Vitamin K2 can play in the health of everyone!

Another paradox is how very little of each we need once anti-nutrients like phytic acid are removed from our diets. And as far as calcium’s concerned, separating it from magnesium (with dose spacing) prevents the two minerals from having to fight with each other for absorption, so each, in effect, is more powerful even at small doses.
Id love to read her book but not at that price. Hope she does a Kindle edition.
Thanks Mick, I’m asking Kate where people can get the one with the new cover.
Her book was acquired by Harper Collins and reissued this month. You can now find it on Amazon or B&N for a great price!
WOO HOO!
I thought I would share something about vitamin D:
“A large bolus dose [of vitamin D] twice a week seems to work better than the same dose divided over 7 days. A “bolus” dose is one that is prescribed to raise a blood compound such as vitamin D to an effective, therapeutic level. In other words, 35,000 IUs twice a week works better than 5,000 IUs every day for 7 days.” – Charles Poliquin
