  1. Well preparing for a bodybuilding competition and having not eaten carbs for the past 6 weeks and will not be consuming them for the next eleven it’s a little hard to here about kids chowing down on goldfish crackers and not get hungry… Good podcast though

  2. Chareva: Don’t sweat it. I used to get those lumps in the back of my throat too. I hadn’t thought about it until your podcast, but I haven’t had them since I gave up grains myself. My kids were 14 and 21 when I took my family off grains. Thankfully I never fed them too much junky stuff, but I did bake all of our own bread. Unfortunately the kids are not open to almond flour as an alternative, but I soldier on. Thanks to both you and Tom for sharing.

  3. Thanks, this was really encouraging. I have children who ate a good diet until they started school and then everything went into a downward spiral because I wanted to (1) send stuff that was easy to pack, didn’t contain nuts (they are forbidden at our school), and didn’t need to be heated and (2) send things that wouldn’t make them feel too weird compared to the other kids. They are crabby a lot. I am going to renew my commitment to a crap-free diet for them.

  4. Tom, I disagree that your high blood sugar, after eating a potato, is due to metabolic damage. When Vilhjalmur Stefansson came back from the Inuit, and was placed under supervision for a year, where he ate only meat, it was found that his blood sugar would spike to well over 200 after he reintroduced carbohydrates to his diet. This phenomenon went away after less than a week of the reintroduction of carbohydrates.

    1. My blood sugar remains high eating starch like Tom. There is no adaptation for metabolically deranged.

  5. I am a huge fan of all Jimmy’s podcasts but this one is particular is one of my favorites! As a mother of 2 children under 4 I found the information the Naughton family shared to be priceless! I have recently found myself wondering “how am I going to feed my kids this way when everyone is doing something different”. The Naughton’s make it sound possible yet are very realistic in their thinking. It helps to hear others aren’t perfect and allow for kids to eat what others are eating in social situations. Thanks for sharing your story Tom and Chareva and giving the this mom the courage to keep up with this lifestyle!

  6. I’ve too made the observation that ‘normal’ food tasted sickly sweet after being low-carb for a couple of months. In my case it was commercial rice-pudding. I just couldn’t eat it. The perceived sweetness was almost like eating taking pure sugar. And yes, carrots are sweet! I’m glad the girls like their food 😉
