When this podcast featuring a man who lost weight and got his health back thanks to low-carb living started in earnest in Episode 1 back on October 23, 2006, little did we know what an incredible impact it would have on the lives of literally tens of thousands of people! But six years later, “The Livin’ La Vida Low-Carb Show” podcast has grown to become one of the most reliable go-to resources for information about low-carb, Paleo, primal, real food nutrition, fitness and health. It’s hard to fathom that we are hitting yet another milestone in the history of this podcast today as we celebrate our historic Episode 600 in a way we’ve never done before.

Back in April 2012, Jimmy featured his annual blogiversary giveaway contest to show his gratitude for the faithfulness of his readers. One of the prizes this year was the chance to co-host this podcast with the guest of your choice for Episode 600. That winner was a guy named Nick Peterson who Jimmy met on the 2011 Low-Carb Cruise. When Nick was asked who he’d like to be a part of this podcast he would be hosting, he didn’t hesitate–Tom Naughton of FAT HEAD fame! What?! Are you sure? Yep, that’s who he wanted and what an excellent time it was as you will hear during this rockin’ show. Listen in as Nick does an outstanding job jibber-jabbering with Tom and Jimmy about some of the hot topics of the day in the world of low-carb and healthy living! ENJOY this very special Episode 600!

  1. Very enjoyable show.  Congratulations on your 600th!  My cholesterol number is over 400 (10.8).  When my doctor told me I tried not to laugh.  I was worried about causing HIM to have a heart attack.  Next time he suggests a blood test I am going to ask him to untick the cholesterol box.  Regarding exercise and weight loss:  I have been watching the Olympic athletes.  They exercise long hours.  Some of them are not thin.  I worry that weight loss TV shows are giving people the idea that hours of exercise is the way to lose weight.  Not many have the time to exercise 6 hours per day so they lose hope.  If you are interested in throwing things, Jimmy, take some boomerang lessons when you visit Oz.  Warm wishes.  Jill

  2. Jimmy: Really great show, one of my many favorites. Although you said that Trigs are not part of total cholesterol, it’s my understanding that it’s obtained by adding HDL, LDL and Trigs divided by 5.

  3. On the exercise part, in a lecture from doug mcguff available on youtube.  He refers to “carb overdose” as an overflowing tub, and he says eating less carbs is turning off the faucet, and good exercise is like pulling the drain plug.  And that makes sense, if you pull the plug without turning off the faucet the overflow is still going to be there.

  4. Great Show Jimmy …Well done Nick!
Tom is a delight and always a treat to hear!
I did want to comment on the whole thing about Paleo vs Low Carb etc. This seems to be nothing new in the world of dieting and disordered eating. Much of what draws people into diets and diet groups (dare I say like Weight Watchers) is the sense of community and us against them and a sense of being special in some way…only thing different about the Paleo vs Low Carb etc. issue is that there are a heck of a lot more men involved!
Thanks for being the beacon (man… I almost typed bacon) of sanity that you are Jimmy!
    Aloha, Gina

  5. Enjoyed this episode! As far as why the word Atkins has a bad rep these days, ridiculous product marketing is probably one reason. Another is that, if you read the book, the program had 3 phases, the first of which was two brutal weeks of 20g carbs, max. You could barely even eat green veggies! But people thought that was the whole diet, so most would stick withthat and then just give up. So lackof undersanding plus bad memories.

  6. I Also enjoyed listening to episode 600. I work with Nick and I have personnaly seen his accomplishements on the low carb lifestyle, over the last two years, which he lives, sleeps and “no punn” eats.
I have listened to his personal views, witnessed his weight loss, his reduction in total cholesterol and his increased energy.
Way to go Guys and Nick.. I’m down 31 pounds myself on the low carb healthy diet from his lead.
    Ciao, Tony
