It’s not often we are privileged to have someone quite like lipidologist Dr. Thomas Dayspring joining us on the podcast. After being in private medical practice for 36 years helping his patients understand the importance (or lack thereof) of their cholesterol results, he has turned his attention to educating his fellow physicians, medical school students and laypeople alike on the various intricacies of advanced lipoprotein testing like the NMR Lipoprofile test through his very popular lectures given all across the United States. He is THE go-to expert on the subject of lipids and what they mean as you’ll quickly hear in today’s interview. Listen in as Jimmy gets Dr. Dayspring to get to the heart of the issue regarding what cholesterol test results really mean and the key marker in determining your overall health that nobody is talking about. This podcast is a keeper and will surely stir the pot of controversy a time or two by the end. ENJOY!
NOTE: We apologize for the poor sound quality of this podcast interview. We have updated our recording equipment for better stability and future episodes will sound better than this. THANK YOU again for your faithful support of this podcast!

585: Lipidologist Dr. Thomas Dayspring: I think this may be one best shows to date.
Jimmy, you need a facebook share button so people could post show like this directly to Facebook.
The Framingham study proved what now? And there are established correlations between total cholesterol and heart disease? Does Dr. Dayspring have anything to back this up?
Ok, Jimmy, interesting stuff. So now what do you, I and the 30% of folks already on the low carb, paleo diet that saw an increase in particle count, (~2400 as I recall you had) do? Dr Dayspring still believes particle concentration drives damage to your artery. And, perhaps it does if you have damage already. It makes sense. But what if your arteries are healthy and your particles are healthy, does concentration matter at all? Are lipoproteins the root cause? or are they the policeman and firefighters that get mistakenly blamed because they are at the scene. If concentration is the root cause why does atherosclerosis only happen at descreet sites?
I’ll be researching this more in the coming months.
I’m writing a book about this coming in 2013.
I want a transcript of this episode! I guess I will get my pen out. Great work
I can’t afford to pay someone to do transcripts.
Hi Jimmy
Both Gary Taubes, as well as yourself, and Stephan Guyenet are all genuinely nice people. I enjoy your blogs, Gary’s and Stephan;s too. All three of them I read. All of you have interesting articles and lots of imagination which is great.
Take care,
Raz
