Raw primal diet advocate Aajonus Vonderplanitz and famed medical practitioner and health writer Dr. Joseph Mercola are our guests today on The Livin’ La Vida Low-Carb Show with Jimmy Moore!
Do you know at what temperature the minerals and proteins in your meat begin to cauterize? Why should you be concerned? These are the questions posed to and answered by Aajonus Vonderplanitz, who has claimed to have overcome autism, cancer and a variety of other ailments in part, or primarily, through restricting what he eats and consuming raw milk butter to improve liver function after mushroom poisoning. Listen in for details on this and more about raw primal living!
Then, you’ll hear from the great Dr. Joseph Mercola (of Mercola.com fame) who talks with Jimmy about why he recommends intermittent fasting and why he thinks naysayers worried about stable blood sugar are under-informed. Plus, you’ll learn about a specific kind of interval training called Peak 8 that Dr. Mercola highly recommends for fat loss that Jimmy has been doing since the beginning of 2011. Does it work? Tune in to find out!

Dr Mercola’s Peak8 (Sprint8) workout on Youtube is impressive. I’d love to see some HIT strength training video too, to see how he does that. It would not surprise me if his comments about being keto-adapted prior to IF (Intermittent Fasting) was not understood by many. Also, as he is having a protein dose before and after his morning workout, its not a complete fast, but perhaps a carb fast – and that’s the important ingredient (or ingredient (carb) not to include).
Perhaps Dr. Mercola would like to reply to a question regarding Peak 8. What’s the optimum length of intervals? In the video, each one was 30 seconds of max effort followed by 1:30 minutes easy effort. But I’ve seen Tabatas for HIIT that were only 20 seconds max effort followed by only 10 seconds easy effort. At the other extreme a popular marathon training interval are Yasso 800s. Max effort can range from 2:30-4+ minutes followed by a few minutes recovery 6-10 times. Whatever pace you can maintain throughout all the 800s is a predictor for your marathon finish time.
As always Jimmy, keep up the good work.
He says doing these eight 2-minute bursts is ideal. If you are able to do more than that, then increase the resistance and exertion.
Wow, no real response from you about Aajonus going to an Indian burial ground to starve himself to death and then eating rabbit that was given to him by a pack of coyotes. That story was insane!
Keep in mind that the call kept dropping every 5 minutes so he might have been in the middle of a story and then I’d have to call him back and have him pick up where he left off in the story and then piece it all together. I don’t care who you are, it’s difficult to keep your head in the game and ask follow-up questions to stuff like that. Plus, I usually allow my guests to share their stories without interruption and then question them later. This one I was just lucky to piece it all together. It was about 30 minutes in air length but took over an hour to record! FYI Greg. 🙂

The author of that blog is a well-known vegan and primal diet antagonizer named Harley “durianrider” Johnstone and he will be a guest on this podcast coming up on July 14, 2011 in Episode 486.
Carroll, Durian Rider is against anyone eating animals, so it’s not really an unbaised report. I’ve talked to him on his site via ‘comments’ and he doesn’t listen much to what you say.
Aajonas’ theories are very easy to condemn, as they are very ‘left field’ of conventional methods. And for a newcomer, a bit overwhelming.
Except for being limited to eating only raw fish and eggs as my main protein, I have followed the Primal Diet for 4 years. Others I know personally, from 5-10 years, with only positive gains.
It’s the best I have been in the 26 years I have tried to regain good health.
The diet is a real challenge first up, but as you understand it, it becomes very easy.
There will always be critics of anything anyone does, and if they are really passionate ctitics like Durianrider, then they will find a way to twist things agound to suit their own agenda.
I have heard quite a bit about him in the negative, but that’s his business whether it’s true or not. It’s of no use to me.
If something feels not right for you, just drop it and move on.
Cheers.
Durianrider will be on this podcast soon.
hmmm, I’m “not convinced” by Vonderplanitz, either, but on the other hand, that criticism comes from a site called “30bananasaday.com”, so I’m not sure Durianrider has a right to accuse anyone else of having an odd diet. (Too many bananas, and other sweet fruit, made me fat … I certainly couldn’t run races on it … different metabolism I suppose).
I think everybody should be skeptical of Aajonus Vonderplanitz’s message, beginning with the story of his medical history. He strains credulity too far. Sounds like he’s selling snake oil that can give you food poisoning.
