  1. I was happy to see you stick up for what you know is the truth and point out that the hip to waist ratio is much better than the bmi. From listening to the previous shows, you tend not to do that and I think you should do it more.

When you asked about Michael’s diet after his lengthy explanation I was anticipating something hilarious, like ‘I just eat 3 dozen tootsie rolls every day’. His diet was still surprising, high-carb, grains, low protein with lots of snacking. I think that he would probably benefit significantly by changing to LCHF.

  2. Michael’s story is like mine in that I used to obsess over food. I had a very difficult time reigning in my cravings for carbs and sugar before Atkins. I couldn’t eat like a normal person because I was always hungry and plagued with cravings. Hearing his experience lets me know that I wasn’t alone in this and that it can be controlled. Michael has a different diet but if it works for him I’m not judging him. Atkins controls mine and now I eat only when I’m hungry. Sometimes i have to force myself to eat! LOL!

  3. For a single individual hip-to-waist ratio is the right measure, but for a population (NOT an individe) BMI is a good and well-known measure – because the “weight lifters” and the yard sticks evens out. 😉

BMI is useless where n=1, but not where n=(mixed population).

  4. Jimmy, you and your guests talked about not drinking diet soda anymore. Do you have any suggestions on how to successfully stop? I’ve stopped for a few months at a time, but I always come back to drinking a few cans per day.

    1. It’s a personal challenge. Try sparkling water, tea, anything else. The fact that it’s so difficult to come off diet sodas is all the more motivation to stop.

      1. I can see how the tea (or coffee) could help substitute diet soda in terms of caffeine. But I’m also wondering about the possible craving for salt in diet soda especially when the body is keto-adaptive and excreting salt water. Perhaps bouillon would also be a good substitute to provide the salt that my body could be craving. It reminds me of your week long fast and using broth to aid you through the process.

  5. Interesting show Jimmy! Thank you. I have to say it was a change to have a food addict on…as they are really a different animal so to speak.

I have bingers who may be addicted to foods (eating disordered for sure) and we don’t even begin to tweak the *kinds* of foods they eat for as long as a year. They work at learning to eat when hungry and only to satiety first 9which in its self brings great change). Eliminating foods right away really puts them in a tail spin.

This is not general population weight loss type of change but the bingers and food addicts are a bigger population than most might imagine. Thanks for bringing it to light.
