I do not believe diseases such as diabetes are inherited. I believe that it IS the diet of the mother that alters the health of the child. As long as we continue to eat a bad diet, we will have children with altered health issues. Our genes play a part in determining what health problems we will develop if the mom consumes a poor diet. If I had the opportunity to do a pregnancy do-over, it would be a low carb diet closer to paleo. My son, now that he is a young man admits to having issues with sugar when he was a kid.Jimmy, my son has adapted a diet similar to my own and he even eats liver. He had severe ADHD and was literally unable to focus well enough to manage decent grades in school. One daughter was held back a year in school and the other daughter came very close to flunking. It wasn’t until they reached college age that they were able to buckle down and get decent grades. One daughter has asthma and I can’t get her to change her diet to save her life. In a few years, not only will she have asthma, she will also have diabetes. But that’s okay because they will have meds for that.
Mary, that is so awesome!!!
Thank you David and Jimmy. We don’t have pharmaceutical advertising, direct to the public. However, I have noticed a few symptom advertisements recently. Do you suffer from this or that? See your doctor. Take care, J
Crazy how blatant it is.
Did I miss something here Jimmy? In your blurb you say that you’ll be discussing “the scourge of commercial pet foods”. I’ve listened twice (admittedly while doing other things) and didn’t hear anything on that. I have a dog and cat and I work part-time in a pet store and would certainly love to hear a conversation on that topic and I imagine many of your listeners have furry friends. I feed my critters low carb and I try to encourage customers to be more conscious of what they’re feeding their pets, but I’d love to know more. If you’ve already had conversations with others on this topic in the past, perhaps you could point me in the right direction. Thanks much for all that you do Jimmy.
THANKS Bonita! I didn’t write that blurb…my producer Kevin did. I’m not sure where he got it from, but I’ll ask him about it. 🙂 I will be having a low-carb veterinarian on in October 2011. 😉 THANK YOU for listening!
Hi Bonita,
It may be only in passing that he mentioned thet he doesn’t feed his dogd grain-based foods.
For a great resource on this, see Dana CArpender’s discussion of the BARF (bones and raw food) diet she gives her pups:
