This interview made me think about how New Zealand can humanely and sustainably grow entirely pasture fed beef and lamb, in excess of our needs, ship it around the world (like Australia, lots of it to the usa) at a very competitive price.
NZ is about the size and population of Colorado, just about as mountainous, windier but warmer (and a lot more coastline!), so why is it that the US can’t supply itself with beef and lamb?
We are very innovative and competitive farmers here, but we don’t occupy such vast, easy and fertile land as in the US. Hmmm.
