I really dont know what to say! LOL.. Well. I know that if eating low carb helps you feel better , how can you get tired of it? LOL. I know alot of peolpe dont stick with it and there are many reasons why, but. I dont know..”tired of it”? As a person that has strayed away from the lifestyle then found my way back I believe being “tired of it” is not the biggest reason why peolpe dont stick wiht it. I dont even want to comment on the rest. Great Podcast.
Thanks, Dr. Lustig! Jimmy, next time ask him about PGX as a fiber source for diabetics who really do have to choose between being a low carber or a high, higher, higher insulin producer and their body doesn’t handle the number of carbs associated with gettung 50 grams daily of non-grain fiber?? Also, just before the podcast ended before Dr. L. quit speaking, he was asking Why would God do that to us? The podcast cut out and I am still wondering….. why did He do it?
Download it again now. Should work fine now.
I’ll wait a few days before downloading it to avoid causing some download jam.
I was asking myself this question after listening to a Robert Lustig interview on a SF area radio. Since he’s a child obesity specialist he may have the beginning of an answer to this question:
Is it a bad thing for the baby to eat too much sugar during pregnancy?
we know for example that drinking alcool during pregnancy can cause serious mental and psysiological problems for the child but what about sugar? I was chatting with an obese pregnant girl the other day and we talked about food for a moment and she told me her doctor recommended that she drink orange juice. She’s already 100+ pounds overweight (you couldn’t guess she was pregnant just by looking at her) and he’s telling her to drink liquid sugar. And after listening to Lustig talk about the obese babies that he sees I couldn’t help thinking about the possible effects of sugar consumption during pregnancy. Do we know if there are any?
Jimmy, can you ask R.L. or other doctors this question and post his/their reply on your blog?
Sugar can have enormous implications on a pregnancy, but that’s a great question to ask future guests.
I don’t myself ever getting tired of the way I eat these days and (my soon to be) 20 year old University student son eats LC/HF much of the time as well.
I don’t find it boring, or feel deprived in the least… it is rich, tasty and varied food. I feel as if I should always have eaten this way!
As for why others may find it harder to stick to I’d suggest you look around what is on offer in the high-street food outlets, plus the pressure of (well-meaning) friends and family.
I cook for myself and most of what I eat now comes from a local Farmer’s Market. Just picked up some of the freshest, juiciest, grass-fed, rib-eye steaks and some Brussels Sprouts today.
Thanks Jimmy and Thank-You Dr Lustig!
Happy New Year!
Cheers
Frank
I think Jimmy highlighted the main problem when discussing low carb diets and getting tired of them – what do we mean by low carb? Atkins gets you to find your threshold and reintroduce to optimum level. Dr William Davis gets his patients to elminate wheat. Dr Gundry mainlines on vegetables. (Just a few examples from LLVLC guests). I don’t know how Dr Lustig DEFINES low carb, so that might be an interesting question to ask him.

Dr Lustig seemed to indicate that Safe Carbs are complex carbs (like lentils/brown rice) and lots of natural veg/fruit fibre – avoiding added sugars and naked fruit.
I’m still not clear what low carb diet he used to lose weight (but grew tired of.)
Great work Jimmy

Great show! Interesting facts and examples. He breaks the science down so I can understand it. Funny, funny answer to the question what’s more important between leptin and insulin. Thank-you for getting him back.
Jimmy, Do you have a link to the two studies he was sighting about the hyper-insulin secretors?
Some of his ideas are great, some are abit dubious, a great listen all the same, Cheers Paul
