Hello and welcome back to The Livin’ La Vida Low-Carb Show with Jimmy Moore!

Today Jimmy shares his conversation with personal trainer and Liberation Diet author Kevin Brown. Listen in as Kevin describes the speedy success he’s had with his clients ever since he decided to do the “opposite of what all the nutrition experts say.” Today’s conversation ranges from the influence of the great Dr. Weston A. Price to the roots of the American Heart Association (and its founder’s opposition to the cholesterol theory of heart disease) and the three foods Abraham served to God when he came to dinner (hint: there was no Pepsi, margarine or Tofurkey at that momentous meal)!

  1. Jimmy, Jimmy. You completely spoiled this interview with your religious overtones. How can I recommend the interview to family and friends now? I’m afraid it loses credibility. Please stick to the message. Otherwise it could have been one of the best.

    1. Robbie, they can do what we all do – eat the meat and spit out the bones. Godd information is just that whether you disagree with someone about something else – religion, global warming, politics, etc. If Jimmy proclaimed he was Republican, would the information not be welcomed by the democrats? I don’t get it. Don’t worry about it. If they want to throw the baby out with the bathwater, let them. Besides, I don’t know if you’ve noticed, it is very rare when you are going to influence someone’s beliefs about diet or anything else. Basically, people have to hit rock bottom, figuring out for themselves that what they are doing isn’t working for them and they should look for something else. Jimmy couldn’t make his brother eat healthfully, I couldn’t make my brother-in-law, who died from the culmination of eating a low-fat, high-carb diet – NAFLD, gall stones, diabetes, etc., eat healthfully. When I tried he got mad at me. So, anyway, don’t worry about Jimmy and Kevin talking about their belief in God. I listen to a lot of Jimmy’s guests talk about evolution which I don’t believe in and I just think they have been lied to and don’t know any better. Why can’t your friends adopt that attitude about Kevin and Jimmy’s reference to their faith?

    2. Robbie, I appreciate your sentiments and respect your point of view. However, it is impossible for me to separate Jimmy Moore the low-carb health enthusiast whose physical life has been radically changed for the better from Jimmy Moore the man whose eternal destiny has been changed by the blood-bought actions of his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

I’ve never hidden from my faith in God which is a relationship and not at all about religion by the way. Recommend the podcast strongly to your friends and family. If they have convictions that drive who they are, then they will not feel threatened or challenged by my belief in God.

I will always be who God made me to be and never feel ashamed to speak His name in this forum or anywhere. That is the core message that I attempt to communicate in my life no matter what I’m doing, my friend.

Here’s a blog post I’ve written on this issue previously:

How Does God Help People Lose Weight?

Don’t bother asking me to stop talking about my faith because it is as much a part of my life as breathing, blogging, and livin’ la vida low-carb! But I appreciate your input!

      1. Jimmy…I’m not a religious person, but I really respect what you said in your reply here. Respectful, but true to your convictions! Good for you! Keep it real!

      2. PRAISE GOD! So glad you’re singing the praises of Low Carb and sharing the gospel of Christ at the same time!

  2. Another great show, Jimmy. I just love Kevin’s voice – so genuine, so relaxed, so caring. As an aspiring CPT I was very interested in what he had to say. I will be going to his website and signing up for his blog emails. As a Christian, I loved the part about what God ate with Abraham. Also, don’t forget, when Noah and his family got off the ark, God told them, “Every moving thing that lives shall be food for you.” Gen 9:3 NKJV

  3. Sadly, what Kevin left out of the Genesis 18 story was that Abraham first fed God bread. After the bread, he then prepared butter, milk, and meat. So, I’m not sure we can say, hey, we need to eat this because God himself prescribes it. God even takes Bread at the passover to show himself and says what? Do this in remembrance of me…

So, although I agree with a low carb lifestyle and saturated fat, I feel it’s kind of a stretch to say that here it is in Genesis 18, of course, unless you’re willing to omit that Abraham FIRST fed God bread, or as the ESV says, “cakes”.

  4. I liked Kevin alot..And I looked up Genesis 18 and Abraham gave them a morsel of bread (whole grain, of course). I don’t think a morsel is very much and then the rest of the meal was dairy and meat. So, it was a LCish meal..:) It certainly wasn’t what the average American eats today.

The “cakes” were the shape of the bread..not sugary stuff, of course.

Interesting podcast..I agree that God made our bodies to eat LC for the most part and when we go against God’s perfect eating plan, disease happens.

  5. Care-full reading of Genesis 18 says that Sarah made bread, but later in the chapter God records that he ate, raw butter, raw milk, and veal. We are not saying that God doesn’t eat bread, but in this chapter it is only recorded that bread was made. God further washes his feet with the water, but drinks the milk!

The point is that God ate the most valuable and healthiest of the foods- SATURATED FAT. This is the food that modern man demonizes and yet we know it is the foundation of health.

    1. I think just regular reading will show you what’s happening here. Abraham says to God, “4 Let a little water be brought, and wash your feet, and rest yourselves under the tree,5 while I bring a morsel of bread, that you may refresh yourselves, and after that you may pass on”

If we’re to assume the bread isn’t for God, then who is the other subject he’s addressing? Why, in the middle of his statement, is he redirecting to another subject that we’re not made known of…unless, Abraham is bringing bread to God.

I’m guessing what you’re saying is that since we don’t see a verse saying, “And God ate the bread” that you’re assuming the bread was only made.

Again, I’m all for the low carb lifestyle, but to say that in this passage, you’re willing to omit bread since all we know is, “it was just made” I have an issue with that.

    2. Hey Kevin, sorry if I sound like a turd in my comments, I really did appreciate your interview with Jimmy and sorry I got all scripture police on you. I’m trying to get out of that habit…Forgive me?

      brad

      1. I think it’s good to challenge people with information that may run counter to what we think is true, Brad. I’m sure Kevin is not at all offended by your comments. THANK YOU for sharing and hopefully everyone is learning in the process. I sure am! 🙂

      2. Just to add that we need to keep in mind when picking apart the words of scripture that: these are translations of translations of translations… with personal interpretation of meanings applied at each level.

  6. Aloha Jimmy!
What a fabulous podcast. Kevin seemed easy to interview (knowledgeable, kind, passionate…and a wonderful voice;) ) and you are a super-star interviewer so this podcast was a was a 10 in my book.
I was saying…”yes, yes, yes!” Many of us were I am sure.
Mahalo to both you and Kevin for keeping me inspired.

  7. Great interview Jimmy! Now I’m almost 28 and I remember how being a teenager I liked to eat boiled eggs with raw butter, but that dogma that saturated fats are bad changed my mind. I’ll start to eat my eggs with raw butter again.
There are so many diets and I even tried raw food for 6 weeks, but can’t imagine myself staying on it for a whole life. Low carb diet makes sense, but my most craving are for these carbs from chocolate, cakes, sweet fruits. I need to reduce honey intake b/c when I drink coffe or tea I put tablespoon of honey in it and drink about four cups a day. Main source of carbs come from berries at the moment, but I should watch of adequate amounts of these as well. I like fish, meat, raw milk and cheese too and these are my main source of food at the moment. I feel great and not so hungry as eating raw food.
We people want to live long enough with a great quality of life. Here is a 108 years old man whose main diet consists of vegetables, fruits, some fresh juice and fish three times a week. As you see he is not a vegan nor he is a meat, cheese, eggs eater as well. His main food from animal source is fish and meat once a year. He eats some nuts as well, drinks cinamon tea in the morning, goes for a walk, fruits and vegetables are mainly organic. I like how he looks and speaks at this age http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mj7knA3-YUs here is part one, if you want to watch there are other two parts.

  8. Curious he keeps bashing Michelle Obama who is adamant that sugar and corn syrup are disastrous for our diet.

    1. Peter, I don’t think Kevin was “bashing” anyone during the interview. He was simply stating that the principles First Lady Michelle Obama is promoting in her childhood obesity campaign are ones that focus on lower-fat foods and there’s nothing inaccurate about that statement at all.

  9. For those interested in the ‘bread’ issue in the bible I would like to suggest they go to http://heartscanblog.blogspot.com/
where Dr.William Davis is conducting an experiment between one of the ancient wheat varieties ‘Einkorn” which he obtained, versus our present day hybrid type. And the results will astound everyone and shed some light on this ongoing controversy.

  10. Seems like the audio is truncated on this page, Jimmy (at least for me). I’m only getting a little over 8 minutes. Downloads OK from the Examiner.com site.

On expressing your faith – you’re not hurting anybody or diminishing anyone else by expressing your faith. It’s what makes you *you.* Don’t change who you are because it simply makes others uncomfortable (not that you would :)).

If I’m ever in your neck of the woods on a Sunday, I hope I can visit with you at AMRBC.

  11. Great interview Jimmy!

It is very unusual to listen to a podcast and not hear anything that I do not know from my many years of studying diet and health to be true. Kevin is right on with everything he says.
    Thanks,

  12. My first time listening to the show and I loved it. The only thing I don’t like is the notion that we should avoid carbs completely. We know that God’s people ate bread regularly. But it wasn’t the high carb processed bread we eat today. If we all cut out the junk, we wouldn’t have to worry about eating modest amounts of fruit and good bread. Keep up the good work!

  13. personally, after surfing the web for “nutritional” data regarding honey, HFCS, agave nectar, and palm extract…
    i trust bees !!
there are many other health and well being components to honey than are described for HFCS…..predominently antioxidants and selenium…
    lol..
besides…according to a well known source { Bible } it is the major ingredient in “The Balm of Giliad”….ancient docs used to put it directly onto wounds…… See More
    “Eat Your Honey” !!

    Saturated fat?

    What about it ?
a 6000 yr old document, translated no one knows how many times..??
    what is the question ?
a “land flowing with milk and honey”…works for me..;-)
i am not lactose intolerant, and i love honey….!!
from the little i know, Ayurvedic practices far outdate the Bible, but how and why does it matter?”

  14. I’m a christian, so at first I was pleased to hear Kevin say that he puts spiritual things first, but then I was appalled at his misuse of the bible. Anyone who has a basic understanding of the bible will know that eating low carb is not emphasized. Jesus fed bread and fish to the multitude of 5000, not to mention he said, “I am the bread of life”. Also, in the example he gave of Abraham giving the best meat to the angel, he forgot to mention that he also offered him bread. In short, the bible never says you have to follow a special diet–we are free to eat whatever we wish. That said, I do think that Kevin had something interesting things to say.
