Hello and welcome back to The Livin’ La Vida Low-Carb Show with Jimmy Moore!
Today Jimmy shares a very intriguing interview with authors Marion Hauser and Nicole Baird who penned a book called The Hauser Diet: A Fresh Look At Healthy Living. Listen in as they offer advice on the best way to follow any diet style from low-carb to veganism.
So, how exactly do they recommend you go about choosing the diet that’s right for you? You need to find out what kind of “animal” you are and this is one of the coolest concepts to come along explaining the differences between the right diet for certain people. Jimmy turns out to be a Lion, and the Lion diet just happens to be low-carb (imagine that)!
We Otter tell you, this is an interesting episode and we’re not Lion! ENJOY!

Jimmy, I recently watched Dr Oz show and saw something rather intresting. He had a doctor, a registered nurse and a PhD guy to talk about genetic testing for finding out which diet is right for the person. There is a company called Interleukin Genetics that offers test kit for $149 to find out if a person is genetically fit for either low fat, high carb: low carb or a combination. After testing people in audeince Dr Oz did recommend those people who tested positive for low carb diet to consume high fat, moderate protein, low carb diet in the range of 20-60 grams. It was a shocker for me, but he did acknowledge that there are those who require low carb to be healthy. I did order the test kit and cant wait to send the results back.
That’s curious Vadim since Dr. Oz has openly criticized low-carb diets this year…but maybe he’s changing his mind. That test sounds intriguing! But I already know low-carb is what I need to be doing and the lower the better for me.
Interesting, people do need to get back to cooking real food. Cooking is work. Its earier to open a box or can.
I do have a couple of problems with what they were saying about their diets. High Protein was given too much importance and High Fat not enough. High Protein will produce the same result as consuming to many carbs. The importance of Dairy (cream, butter, cheese) seems to be left out.
Carl, I couldn’t agree more! I was concerned that this Lion diet was labeled “high protein” with 60% of calories from that macronutrient. You and I know that this is unproductive for weight and health because of gluconeogenesis. But the animal model is a good start for demystifying low-carb living for people.
Jimmy,
This is the first time I listened to your show and I really enjoyed the interview with the ladies from The Hauser Diet. Thanks for the work you are doing and thank you for having them on the show. I checked out their site and think it has great information, however I agree with you to a certain extent. By pushing simply protein and hiding the fact that fat is important it can be a bit misleading, however in the show Marian did say that the lion diet is by default a high fat diet because of the food choices which are required to fulfill the macronutrient percentages.
Thanks again. I will be listening to the show in my car from now on.
Karl
Karl, welcome to the fun! We’re so glad to have you. 😀

I read about the Hauser Diet a while back and it was nice to hear them interviewed on your show. I like the fact that they don’t pigeonhole people into one size fits all type of diet and that they acknowledge the benefits of a low carb diet are what’s best for some folks.
