Hello and welcome back to The Livin’ La Vida Low-Carb Show With Jimmy Moore!

Today, Jimmy is proud to present our record-setting THIRD interview with author and former associate of Dr. Atkins, Dr. Mary C. Vernon!
In this new interview, Dr. Vernon has some great fresh commentary and advice, but most exciting is her news about a new website being created by herself, Gary Taubes and Eric Westman, called Innovative Metabolic Solutions. IMS is a clearing house for data, research and doctor referrals appropriate for the low-carb audience.

ALSO: Check out our new segment “The CarbSmart Minute,” where low-carb blogger Amy Dungan shares thoughts about new and delicious low-carb products available from CarnbSmart. As an experiment, we’ll be running these segments a few times each month.

  1. Great interview Jimmy, as usual.

I think it is a good idea for people to look at their background, because they may have inherited genes that predispose them to function better with certain types of diets.

A nutrition-related genetic mutation can spread to an entire population in as little as 396 years, or even less depending on the circumstances. I posted about this here:

  2. Jimmy,
Great interview. Do you recall Dr. Vernon talking about “fed starvation” and the fact that your body will use protein from muscle if not available from diet? Now take a look at your recent menus. You went from 1:30PM on Jan 21 to 8AM on Jan 23 with only one omelet for dietary protein. NOT ENOUGH Jimmy!

  3. I’m not sure the Pima really are all that different from the rest of us, metabolically speaking. Besides the government provided surplus wheat flour Gary Taubes wrote about, they’ve been eating high fructose agave for many generations, long before high fructose corn syrup hit the scene. The Pima Indians may have just gotten where we’re all heading first. Agave is often described as a “famine food.” Mexican Pima don’t suffer the rates of obesity that Arizona Pima do; and today, they still eat closer to their original diet than Arizona Pima. It’s not low carb; but perhaps they suffered less from man-made famine, maybe they leaned on agave for sustenance just a little bit less than they did in Arizona. Fructose sucks.

  4. Great interview with Dr. Vernon. She is so interesting to listen to and like you said, her enthusiasm is absolutely infectious. Please take advantage of her offer to come back whenever you ask. Thanks for the continuous stream of informative interviews. I appreciate them very much.
