  1. “atkins face to face.” what does that mean? at a cocktail party or as a patient? if as a patient, then there should be medical records that demonstrate a doctor patient relationship for a certain period of time.

i guess you have to dismiss low carb as effective in and of itself if you’re going to work a new angle…as all of these types are doing whether it’s the lady with the fruit hat, or the no s guy, or anyone else trying to turn this into some sort of psychologically oriented personal transformation crap.

it’s not a head game; it’s your pancreas producing extra insulin in response to the ingestion of sugars and starches. read taubes, lutz, eades, su, carlson, vernon, bernstein, sisson.

  2. I found this approach to very interesting and thought provoking. Jon seems to be the type that has “tried” all the diets but not stuck to any, but found that a mindset of thousands of years ago to be effective.

Perhaps LivinLaVida Low Carb could be enhanced by meditation and guided imagery.

    It makes me wonder…

  3. Interesting concept and certainly different from a lot of things that are out there…

I don’t deny that there is a mind-body connection and I think some of the things he mentions have merit, but I also have a hard time believing that everyone that is obese has had some experience that triggered their body to activate this “fat as a safety mechanism” program. I know that is not true for me and denying heredity (having generations of obesity and diabetes in my case) is pretty ridiculous.

One good thing is that he suggests some highly beneficial foods and nutrients that are right in line with Atkins (Omega 3, flax seed, green leafy vegetables, etc.), but I won’t be cutting up pizza into my salad anytime soon πŸ˜›

He seems to contend that this is the only way to really lose weight and we all know that is not true. I guess that sells books (and I am intrigued enough that I might check his out), but that is pretty closed-minded.

Great interview and very complimentary to the Low Carb Lifestyle.

Well-stated arguments, Keith. I didn’t buy everything he had to say either, Keith. But he was fun to talk to nevertheless. πŸ™‚

  4. SSS I didn’t think Jon was dismissing anything. He was being interviewed by Jimmy – he told his story, and it was different than your story, it was different than Jimmy’s story and it was different than my story. He was asked to disclose what he did to lose 220 lbs. So why the disparaging remarks about his interview? Apparently Atkins was not the route he took. Granted, maybe he didn’t give low carb a fare enough chance, but who are you to criticize the method he did use? Jon lost 220 lbs. and has a killer body. So SSS, exactly how much weight have YOU lost, how long have YOU kept it off and how about posting a pic of YOUR physique? I think your comment was very immature and disrespectful. I’m embarrassed that you would post such a comment on this site simply because you disagree with Jon’s method of weight loss. FYI, weight loss IS a “head game” for some people. Some people DO lose weight when they lower their calories and exercise more. Some people lose weight just from getting the sugar out of their life and eating healthier, fresh foods, including complex carbs. I’m not one of them, but there are plenty of people who succeed with this lifestyle and I personally have talked to a few.

The thing that perhaps bothers me the most is, I’ve heard Jimmy state over and over that “everyone is different”. Not all people are carbohydrate sensitive, not all people need to use Atkins to lose weight. Way to go Jimmy… Furthermore, Jon Gabriel talks about the negative impact carbohydrates can have on us. (SSS, did you listen to the entire interview?) In fact, Jimmy says to Jon, “I love your approach, regarding anti-diet…”

SSS, SHAME ON YOU! GROW UP!

And Jimmy, I’m very disappointed in your response to SSS… SSS’s comments are NOT “Great stuff”. Just because SSS is one of your supporters doesn’t mean you should support disparaging remarks toward your guest Jon Gabriel.

    Thanks for reading this.

  5. Interesting, I’ve also been paying more attention to diet and nutrition lately. Anyone heard about this upcoming weight loss program created by Kirstie Alley, one of my favorite actresses, no less?!?!? Saw her talking about it on Oprah. I registered here to find out what the heck she’s got going on http://www.kirstiealley.com If you have an opinion on it, or know anything about it, post it here!

  6. After reading the Posts I agree with Donna! I was disappointed with Jimmy’s response to SSS.
I am reading the Gabriel book right now and find it really interesting, what led me to the Gabriel method was reading articles about what role the mind plays with regards to our bodies and you know what, it makes sense to me. That is when I stumbled across the Gabriel method, I have to admit that I had seen it before and written it off as one of the infomercial money making scams, however when I stopped and listened to what John was saying, I began to sit up and take notice! Then when I saw an interview with Jon on the Long running Australian Breakfast show, the Today Show I began to research
I too have tried many diets over the years, I have been slim, regular, overweight which is where I am now I have also tried the Low Carb approach to dieting and I am sorry to say that it did not work for me, sure it worked for a while, but was not a long term solution ( for me) I think it does boil down to if it is working then go for it!
There is a slim girl inside me screaming to get out, I just hope that this is the path she need to take to get there 

PS Betty, what is that all about LOL
