There are some professions that can predispose you to becoming overweight or obese and a lineman in football is certainly no exception. On the professional level, this became even more pronounced as bigger is better. But once the career in football is over, what happens to these guys who are used to eating like there’s no tomorrow and working it off each week. Today we have a former NFL and CFL pro football lineman who shares about the challenges of transitioning from his poor eating habits that made him “way too fat” and how he overcame that with the use of a low-carb diet.
In Episode 244 of “The Livin’ La Vida Low-Carb Show with Jimmy Moore,” we hear from Mario Mariani who I found out about reading this Alameda Sun story about the turnaround he made in his weight and health as a result of doing his own customized version of the Atkins diet. His doctor told him he was borderline diabetic and needed desperately to lose weight. Surprisingly, the doctor recommended Mario to go on the Atkins diet and the results were phenomenal–massive weight loss, blood pressure down, cholesterol down, blood sugar normalized, and as healthy as he has been in years! Listen to the enthusiasm in his voice as he talks about coming off of all of his medications, enjoying his low-carb life, exercising enough to be fit, and changing his life forever for the better.
This support for the low carb lifestyle is encouraging. There is so much misinformtion out there on what works and what doesn’t and this success story is enlightening and supportive for us folks that really need to get it off and keep it off. Thanks
