Oftentimes you will hear me bemoan the medical industry and specifically doctors for failing to understand that most of the modern diseases they deal with like diabetes, cancer, obesity, and others are indelibly connected to our diet and nutritional choices. It seems so elementary to many of us, but for some reason there is a disconnect between the truth about carbohydrate stimulating insulin which leads to weight gain and declined health and the way doctors treat these things (primarily through the use of pharmaceutical and surgical measures). So when you actually hear a physician “discovering” the miracle of low-carb for the first time, it’s fun to hear their enthusiasm. That’s exactly what happened to Dr. Nathan Eliason.

In Episode 184 of “The Livin’ La Vida Low-Carb Show with Jimmy Moore,” Dr. Eliason talks about how reading Gary Taubes’ 2002 column “What If It’s All Been A Big Fat Lie?” and then two other popular low-carb books in the past couple of years–SUGAR SHOCK! by Connie Bennett and Good Calories, Bad Calories by Gary Taubes–that got him to realize he needed to make some person changes in his own diet to preserve his health. Dr. Eliason’s personal journey battling high triglycerides and lipid abnormalities has convinced him this is the way he should be eating to be as healthy as he can be.

How about this transformation that took place in Dr. Nathan Eliason after reading SUGAR SHOCK! and Good Calories, Bad Calories? Do you think this kind of thing has happened more than we even realize among frustrated doctors? Special THANK YOU to Dr. Eliason for sharing his story and I welcome other doctors who have recently “found” low-carb and realize it is likely just what the doctor ordered for themselves and their patients.
