In today’s episode, our host Jimmy takes a chronological look at the events — and the seemingly unlimited lies — that lead up to the collapse of Heidi “Kimmer” Diaz’s credibility as a “Diet Guru.” If you don’t know the full story, there are some very interesting recent developments involving Heidi’s own family and the ownership of the Kimkins web site itself.

Tune in for one wild ride (in “Kimmer’s” own words) through the pathetic career of one thoroughly discredited diet maven!

TRANSCRIPT of Episode 94

This is Episode 94 of “The Livin’ La Vida Low-Carb Show with Jimmy Moore” and today will be a special podcast unlike anything I’ve ever done before. With all the revelations that have been uncovered over the past few months since I conducted an interview with the founder of the Kimkins diet right here on this program, I thought it would be extremely beneficial to go back to my interview with Kimmer to hear straight from the woman herself what she claimed to be true at the time that has since been debunked by the facts.

For those of you who are unaware of the controversy surrounding Kimkins, let me quickly bring you up to speed. Kimkins is a low-fat, low-calorie diet created by a woman who calls herself Kimmer and she allegedly lost 198 pounds in the span of 11 months eating this way. The diet consists primarily of lean protein like chicken, egg whites, and very little fat at all. Many members of this diet, which came to prominence through the Low-Carb Friends forum and then later at its own diet at Kimkins.com, regularly ate around 700 calories a day with hardly any fat or carbs. The promise of “fast weight loss” with the Kimkins plan has come with a price: health dangers to many current and former members, including hair loss, anorexia, laxative abuse, and even heart problems for Christin, the woman who appeared on the front cover of Woman’s World magazine earlier this year as a Kimkins success story.

But besides this risky starvation diet, it is what has been revealed about the mysterious woman behind Kimkins that should have anyone associated with this diet scheme the most worried. As you will see in today’s podcast, all that Kimmer, whose real name is Heidi Diaz, has said about who she is was dead wrong. She not only lied about her weight loss and all the experiences she claimed to have allegedly being on this low-calorie diet of hers, but she has continued to stretch the truth every single time she has been confronted with the facts. Some say that they don’t care about who the woman behind Kimkins is because they’re losing weight. But if Kimmer/Heidi Diaz is distorting the truth this much about her identity, then how much credibility does she have to speak authoritatively about what a healthy diet is? That’s something to think about as we begin to take a closer look at what she had to say to me in my interview with her in July 2007.

Let’s begin with the weight loss success that Heidi Kimberly Diaz allegedly experienced and share with me in that exclusive interview. This was the first time any of us had actually heard what Kimmer had to say about her weight loss success, but it certainly wouldn’t be the last. Let’s listen to what she had to say about her current weight when I asked her about it:

AUDIO 1

So she claims she currently weighs between 118 and 122 and that she lost her 198 pounds within the span of 11 months. How long has she supposedly been maintaining this weight?

AUDIO 2

Heidi claims she has now kept this 198 pounds off for a total of 5 1/2 years. Unfortunately for her, that was a bald face lie. Recent revelations from a private investigator who posted surveillance pictures of the woman behind Kimkins reveal her to be a morbidly obese woman weighing well over 300 pounds. Those photos and video footage appeared on KTLA-TV earlier this month bringing mainstream attention to what is only the first of many fabrications we would hear out of the woman called Kimmer.

Moving to the specific diet she promotes, Heidi told me that she sees nothing at all wrong with eating less than 1200 calories a day when you are trying to lose weight.

AUDIO 3

Unfortunately, that’s some really bad advice because a healthy, nutrient-dense diet needs at least 1200 a day for basal metabolic function. Pushing calories under that level for any length of time will cause the body to begin preservation mode because it thinks you are dying. This is why people on the Kimkins diet stall out for an extended period of time at some point during their weight loss and it basically pushes them to become anorexic fearing even the smallest amount of food out of fear their weight will go up. Kimmer disagreed and likened it to what people who have had gastric bypass eat following their surgery.

AUDIO 4

She claims that gastric bypass patients eating 500 calories a day, but my own mother has had this surgery as well as several friends. It is preposterous to claim this when the evidence is just not there to support it. But you gotta consider the source. I even asked Kimmer about any medical endorsements for her starvation diet plan and here’s what she said:

AUDIO 5

So she’s “purposely” giving out advice about diet and health without the use of any medically trained professionals to back up the veracity of the diet? Yep, that’s what she said and she even sounded like she was proud of that fact. Incidentally, Kimmer recently hired a Florida acupuncturist named Dr. Mark Brinson to help provide nutritional counseling to the Kimkins members, so I guess she changed her mind about wanting medical help with her diet.

I was a bit miffed at Heidi when she dissed the very diet that helped me lose over 180 pounds in one year back in 2004. In fact, she has gone so far as to describe the Atkins diet as “Fatkins” often when people have mentioned that low-carb diet. Here’s what she said about the speed of weight loss on the Atkins diet during my interview with her:

AUDIO 6

Um, excuse me, Heidi, but 180 pounds in one year ain’t exactly slow. It’s over three pounds a week average and that includes 30 pounds lost in my first month and 40 pounds lost in month two. Trying to malign the Atkins diet for not producing fast weight loss is laughable to someone who’s actually been there and done that. But when you didn’t really lose weight as you claimed, then that’s a point you wouldn’t care about.

But the thing about telling a whopper of a lie, like claiming you lost 200 pounds, is that people want to see proof you actually did it. That’s why I prominently post my before and after photos at my blog because I want people to see I’m a real man who used to weigh 410 pounds and now weigh about half that much. We’ve seen the before pictures of Kimmer that she posted as her avatar at Low-Carb Friends and she confirmed that picture of the lady in the blue sweater with the big sunglasses is indeed her photo.

AUDIO 7

Establishing that as her before picture, I then asked Heidi about the now infamous lady in the red dress who she claimed was her today after losing 200 pounds. Here’s what she said about the photo shoot that she had done for the upgrade to her web site:

AUDIO 8

Although Heidi said rather confidently in my interview with her “that’s me” regarding the “red dress” picture, that has since been found to be absolutely, 100% false. The picture actually belongs to a 27-year old Russian model named Lesya who might find it interesting to know that an American scam artist is using her likeness to make millions of dollars promoting a diet plan centered around a woman claiming to be her. Wanna know what makes it even worse is how Heidi came up with this long, drawn out story about how she stays so young looking. Now that we know the truth about the red dress lady, this is just plain maniacal and laughable in hindsight:

AUDIO 9

Minimal sun damage? Collagen? Retin-A? Puh-leez Heidi! You really should have stopped at the lie about being the woman in the red dress, but nooooo. You had to take it one step further and come up with this ridiculous story about keeping your 49-year old body looking young after losing 200 pounds. Can you see why there are people who have serious concerns about this woman? It’s like she can’t help herself telling lie after lie and I do believe at this point she is in so deep she can’t tell fantasy from fiction anymore.

She continues her little lying game when she claims she could never do what Woman’s World cover girl Christin did with the photo shoot because she is such a private person who doesn’t like attention. Take a listen to the sob tale she tells about how it would make her ill.

AUDIO 10

Well, you also can’t because everyone would find out you really didn’t lose weight, Heidi. And speaking of Christin, she tried to meet with Kimmer on the weekend of the Woman’s World photo shoot since it was taking place close to where Kimmer lives. Naturally, Christin wanted to meet Kimmer, but take a listen to this amazing chain of events that just suddenly happened on the weekend the big meeting was supposed to happen.

AUDIO 11

It’s quite obvious now why Kimmer/Heidi didn’t want anybody, not even her biggest supporter Christin who was representing her diet, to meet her in person. She was a fraud and knew her gig would be up if anyone ever found out. And she has been purposely evasive about what her real name is. I asked her about that in my previous interview.

AUDIO 12

Not a chance, she says. Hmmm…but she wasn’t too afraid to tell us all the assumed names she has taken on over the course of her life.

AUDIO 13

And let’s not forget she also pretends to be Vanessa Sharp and Brad Johnson when representing Kimkins members and affiliates in e-mails, so who the heck really knows anymore. The fact remains that all these people are simply names she uses to avoid who she really is. And that’s Heidi Kimberly Diaz. She admitted to me in an e-mail that’s her real name and it was the name on the affiliate checks. So that’s who she is. But she takes great pride in never using her real name which is more than a bit odd.

AUDIO 14

Besides, Kimmer says, if anyone who knew her secret then surely the whole world would know all about it now, right?

AUDIO 15

Actually, they have! Heidi’s ex-husband and even her own son have admitted she never lost weight and that she’s been a scam artist her entire life. Kimkins is merely her latest in a long line of fraudulent practices and she will do it again unless she is stopped this time. A class action lawsuit is now being filed against her and the FTC as well as the Better Business Bureau are investigating the unethical business practices of Kimkins. In fact, the BBB recently downgraded Kimkins to an “F” rating, the worst possible score you can get.

Many Kimkins members were upset when Heidi released the long-awaited e-book that nothing more than a long e-mail that looked thrown together quickly. She told me in my interview with her that it has taken so long to release because she wanted it to be perfect.

AUDIO 16

The only problem was, people felt gipped because it wasn’t good. It was cheap and desperate. Very clearly, this was the sign of a woman who had more to hide than just her own inability to follow the diet advice she was shelling out. She was even using fake success story pictures as has now been discovered and exposed. But she contended otherwise.

AUDIO 17

Don’t you love how she stammered her way through that answer? Um, professional, er, um models, um, er… The handwriting was on the wall as I was interviewing this con artist and it became clear to many more in the months that have elapsed since. I asked Kimmer about whether she would ever sell the Kimkins web site to avoid the controversy and she said…

AUDIO 18

But as “nutty” as Heidi thought it was at the time, that’s exactly what she did just last week selling it to an unknown buyer, although she said she would still be onboard as a consultant to the company. She said in my previous interview that the real benefit of Kimkins is the forum that comes with the membership anyway and not her.

AUDIO 19

If that’s what you’re looking for when you sign up for Kimkins, then you might as well save your $60 and come join our FREE low-carb support forum at LowCarbDiscussion.com. The fact that Heidi names this as the primary reason people should be shelling out their money to her is utterly preposterous. What’s worse is the people she has running the forums as her admins regularly delete posts that are unflattering to Kimkins or Kimmer, read the private messages of the members, spies on where their members visit when they leave the Kimkins site, and bans anyone who disagrees with them in the slightest. It’s not a loving and caring place for people who desire weight loss support.

AUDIO 20

Well, at least we agree on something, Heidi! It’s too bad you had to pretend like you didn’t even know me when I called you last week to follow-up on some of these new facts that counter just about everything you told me in our interview. I knew it was her as soon as she started talking and I remembered this part of our first interview.

AUDIO 21

Listen closely towards the end of my call to Heidi last week to hear her stutter and elongate the “I…I” again. It’s a dead ringer for who she is despite her insistence she was just the babysitter.

AUDIO 22

Hopefully now you can see that Heidi Diaz is just a habitual liar who will continue to commit lie after lie after lie in an effort to keep her scam going. She has lied to everyone involved with her Kimkins diet scheme and anyone who is still involved with Kimkins at this point is either in on the lie or has become so delusional to the truth they can’t tell up from down anymore. If you open up your mind and see how she scammed so many of us, then there’s nothing wrong with getting out while you still can. I’m here for you as are many in the low-carb community who stand ready with open arms to embrace you and help you along in this journey to better health. Kimkins is NOT the way.
