TRANSCRIPT OF EPISODE 17:
This is Episode 17 of “The Livin’ La Vida Low-Carb Show with Jimmy Moore” and I’m so glad you could join us again for another fun-filled, action-packed show about the positive impact of the low-carb lifestyle on your weight and health. Quite literally, millions of people are changing their lives every single day because of the incredible lessons they have learned following the nutritional principles bestowed upon them by people like the late great Dr. Robert C. Atkins from The Atkins New Diet Revolution, Dr. Arthur Agatston from The South Beach Diet, Drs. Michael and Mary Dan Eades from Protein Power, and so many more. While the media and those so-called health “experts” keep expecting low-carb to just go away, the success of this show as well as my highly successful blog at LivinLaVidaLowCarb.com prove day in and day out that this miraculous way of eating isn’t going anywhere anytime soon.
Mark your calendar for this Wednesday, January 17th at 1:00PM EST to attend the SUGAR SHOCK! Can I let you in on a little secret? It’s a really big one, so you might want to turn up the volume a little so you can hear it loud and clear. Are you ready? Shhhhh. I know you’ll never believe me when I tell you what the REAL reason why I started my blog and podcast show. Was it to help educate people about how to lose weight? Sure. Was it to give out encouragement to people who desire weight loss? Absolutely! Was it to entertain people with interesting information on low-carb dieting? I suppose. But more than ANYTHING else, my primary objective when I started the “Livin’ La Vida Low-Carb” blog and now “The Livin’ La Vida Low-Carb Show” podcast was, well, ME! It might seem selfish to some people to hear a blogger or podcaster talk about themselves like they are the master of their own universe or something. Well, actually those of us who blog and do podcasts are the masters of our own little domain because this is the one place that is mine, mine, all mine! HA HA HA HA HA!
Seriously, though, what I wanted more than anything else when I started writing at my blog and recording podcasts each week was accountability for myself while simultaneously doing all of those other things, too. I knew writing, podcasting and even publishing a book about my low-carb weight loss experience would help me keep my own weight off forever. So far, mission accomplished. Many of my well-meaning low-carb blog friends, though, have said to me that I shouldn’t talk about my struggles on the low-carb lifestyle because I’ll turn people off to it. Say what?! Not only am I going to talk about my struggles, but I’m also going to talk about all the wonderful positive changes that have happened to me thanks to the low-carb way of life. I wouldn’t have it any other way because people deserve to hear the truth for a change. For far too long we have put up with the idea that eating a low-fat/low-calorie diet is the only possible way in the universe for people to lose weight and keep it off forever and that’s the biggest lie that’s ever been perpetrated on our society. Most people are intelligent enough to pick up on someone who is being less than forthright about themselves. If I never shared with you the tough times that I encounter being on a low-carb plan, then how can I expect anybody to ever take me seriously? We all go through the bad times on our weight loss journey, but it’s how we deal with those times that makes the real difference between success or failure. Who do you know in your life who has NEVER had to go through anything difficult? I don’t know anyone in my circle of friends who hasn’t and my guess is neither do you. So why do we put on a face and try to be fake, especially in a blog or podcast forum? We’re all in this together and part of that includes sharing what we are going through to give people the hope they so desperately long for in their own weight loss attempts.
Last year I experienced about a 10-pound weight gain during the summer and blogged about it to my readers. Say what?! You can’t go around talking about stuff like that because you’ll discourage people from losing weight. Oh yes I can talk about it and no I won’t scare people away who are serious about getting their own weight under control. It’s all about being real and THAT’S ME! Which is I write and speak the way I do–good, bad, ugly and everything in between. I think people love and respect what I have to say that much more because I refuse to sugar-coat my experiences one iota. Plus, if you haven’t noticed, I’m not very politically correct either. Telling it to you straight with no pretenses whatsoever is precisely how I get my point across and I make no apologies for my in-your-face style. I have put my name, face and image out there front and center at my blog, on the cover of my book, and in this podcast show because I’m not afraid for people to see who I am and catch a glimpse of what my life after an enormous weight loss is all about. I’ve never had an issue with being afraid to speak out about how I really feel on just about any subject. If I feel it, then you’re gonna hear about it from me sooner or later. Again, that gives people who hear me or read my columns a sense of comradarie, like you know who I am although we have never met face-to-face. I have several blog “friends” who I have never had the privilege to meet in person, but I know we would get along great if we did. That’s the power of the Internet, connecting people with others who can literally live thousands of miles away. I have many friends who live in Australia, the Phillipines, Canada, the UK, Germany, and, of course, all across the United States of America. We’re one big community.
While I enjoy writing and speaking out about weight loss, health, diet and nutrition, I have to remind people that I am not medically trained and therefore cannot give out any medical advice about what people should do. But what I can and will do is share from my own experience so that others can see the circumstance they are going through right now may not be as impossible to overcome as they think it is. Just knowing somebody else has either gone through or is going through what they are is enough to motivate some to keep going just when they were thinking of giving up. But just because I don’t have the professional background doesn’t mean I don’t have a right to blog or do a podcast show to provide help to others. And the same goes for you. Seriously, if you want to create the best accountability partner in the entire world, then what you need to do is start your own blog or podcast show. Does this sound crazy? I’m sure it does to some people, but it can really work for you. Just this past week, a new low-carb podcast show was created called “The Low-Carb Show Podcast” with Marc Sage available for download from iTunes. On January 1, 2007, Marc started on the Atkins diet in an attempt to lose some unwanted pounds that had built up on him. He wants to get back to the weight he was in high school and felt the podcasting format would give him the accountability he needs to get it done. You can track Marc’s progress in his low-carb weight loss efforts at LowCarbShow.com.
If you do start a blog or podcast, then make sure it doesn’t pull you away from other important things, such as getting in your exercise at the gym. My thinking on this is that it is all about staying balanced and remaining true to yourself. If blogging or podcasting ever got to be too overbearing for me and made me compromise my health in any way, then I’d quit doing it in a heartbeat and wouldn’t think twice about it. Right now, I don’t see that ever happening, but I suppose it is possible that circumstances could change for me someday. One of the other benefits I get from doing what I do at my blog and with this podcast is that it helps me destress my life. Best of all, creating a blog is FREE! As in it doesn’t cost you any money. WOO HOO! Blogger has been a wonderful service for me and is super easy to use. I believe that blogs and podcasts will be a dominant force in marketing and media over the next decade because they will continue to connect real people who have things to say with real people who will want to hear what is being said. Let me know if you decide to start your own blog or podcast show by dropping me an e-mail at livinlowcarbman@charter.net. I’d love to give you a plug at my blog and possibly in a future episode of my podcast show. Don’t be bashful, share your thoughts about livin’ la vida low-carb through these new mediums and you will find more accountability in your weight loss efforts than you ever thought possible. Remember, weight loss and improved health is yours for the taking!
