Transcript of Episode 8:

Thanks for listening to Episode 8 of “The Livin’ La Vida Low-Carb Show with Jimmy Moore.” I’m so stoked to share with you my podcast show this week as we check out what I consider are the best and the brightest low-carb blogs of 2006. The idea for this actually came last week when Dr. Manny Alvarez, Managing Editor for Health News at FOXNews.com, named my “Livin’ La Vida Low-Carb” blog as one of the Top 10 health web sites online. What an honor it was to be listed among some of the most highly-respected health blogs around! You can find a link to this article in the show notes section at TheLivinLowCarbShow.com. I am so grateful for the exposure to the work I am doing at my blog and want to publicly congratulate all of my fellow health bloggers who were chosen for this awesome praise. It was very interesting to me that my blog was the only one among the ten that deals with the issue of weight loss specifically and it was also the lone low-carb blog represented. Because of that, I decided that I would zero in on what I believe are the ten most outstanding low-carb blogs of the year that are out there in cyberspace providing excellent information and ideas about livin’ la vida low-carb each and every week. This is by no means an exhaustive list of low-carb blogs because there are a bazillion of them! You can access just about any low-carb web site you would ever want to find at the #1 low-carb links web site on the Internet–“Livin’ La Vida Low-Carb Links.” Visit LowCarbLinks.blogspot.com to access hundreds of useful links to articles and web sites about the low-carb lifestyle.

So, what criteria did I look for in choosing the top low-carb blogs of the year? It’s elementary, my dear, looking at these five key qualities: 1) Frequency–do they post often enough to maintain interest among their readers?; 2) Quality–is the information provided useful and educational?; 3) Low-Carb Focused–is the predominant topic of discussion on the blog about the low-carb lifestyle?; 4) Relevance–does anyone actually read the blog and interact with it?; and finally 5) Originality–what are the unique aspects that set this blog apart from the rest? Without a doubt, these ten blogs I am about to share with you are definite must-reads that you should immediately go bookmark and visit as often as you can if you are a supporter of the low-carb lifestyle. Each and every one of them talk about low-carb from their own personal and professional perspective, but they all agree on one thing–livin’ la vida low-carb is an extremely healthy nutritional approach that should be considered by anyone suffering from a weight or health problem. Also, they all agree that eating excessive amounts of sugar and refined carbohydrates is the root cause of obesity and diabetes in the United States today and are all bold champions of sharing with others how low-carb living can enrich and improve their lives immensely. In this list, we have bloggers who create delicious low-carb recipes, share the latest low-carb research, provide news and commentary about low-carb living, expose the dangers of sugar consumption, have experienced large low-carb weight loss success, and so much more! This really is an eclectic set of low-carb blogs that you will want to reference again and again. My apologies ahead of time if a blog you believe was worthy of mention on this list was omitted. It was not my intention to to slight anyone here, but to simply offer up this handful of blogs as a representation of what I believe are the best of the best in the low-carb blogging community in 2006. But anyone who is brave and intelligent enough to be blogging about livin’ la vida low-carb as we approach 2007 is already exhibiting a bold and daring leadership position in the diet and health debate. A hearty CONGRATULATIONS goes out to all low-carb bloggers for having the strength and courage to stand firm in their beliefs for the sake of sharing the facts with others. God bless you and keep fighting the good fight. We will prevail with truth on our side.

Alrighty then, are you ready for The Top 10 Low-Carb Blogs of 2006? (Drumroll…Announcer: NUMBER TEN)

Coming in at #10 is “The Divine Low-Carb” blog at thedivinelowcarb.blogspot.com. Featuring commentary about the low-carb lifestyle from a former 500-pounder named PJ, this biggest loser in progress is showing low-carb can help you drop the pounds and fast, too. PJ is averaging over 30 pounds lost per month since September and shows no signs of letting up! The tag line of this fantastic low-carb blog states, “An opportunity to eat awesome food, never be hungry, lose weight, feel great, and be healthier. What not to love?” I couldn’t have said it better myself! PJ has so many positive opinions about this incredible low-carb experience and doesn’t mind sharing them with you either. You’ll find yourself cheering PJ on to great success while learning a thing or two in the process at “The Divine Low-Carb” blog.

(Drumroll…Announcer: NUMBER NINE)

The #9 best low-carb blog is “Carbohydrate Addict,” formerly known as the “Stumbling to Bethlehem” blog located at stumblingtobethlehem.blogspot.com. It’s run by Victoria who has lost over 60 pounds on the Atkins diet and is one of the most passionate followers of this way of eating that I know. She doesn’t mind stirring up debate on the topic of low-carb living, especially when people challenge her on just how unhealthy her diet is. Victoria stands strong knowing that livin’ la vida low-carb has transformed her into the beautiful person she has become today. She never backs down from a fight because she is armed with the facts and experience of living the low-carb life!

(Drumroll…Announcer: NUMBER EIGHT)

The #8 best low-carb blog is actually a two-fer because this blogger has not one, but TWO amazing blogs to share. The sensational Suzique runs both the “Waisted In The Wasteland” blog at waistedinthewasteland.blogspot.com as well as the research-oriented “Low-Carb Lab” blog at Low-Carb-Lab.blogspot.com. I had to name BOTH of Suzique’s blogs on this list because they are like a Dr. Jekkyl and Mr. Hyde of low-carb blogs, each with their own appeal. “Waisted In The Wasteland” is where Suzique lets her hair down and simply shares what it’s like to live inside the body of a woman following the low-carb lifestyle. Her engaging writing style allows you to feel every emotion, experience all the highs and lows, while better appreciating how life can improve on with low-carb. On the other hand, “Low-Carb Lab” is a more rigid blog providing a user-friendly Cliff’s Notes version of the latest nutritional research with very little personal commentary from Suzique. Both blogs are worthy low-carb reading.

(Drumroll…Announcer: NUMBER SEVEN)

The #7 low-carb blog is Carol Bardelli’s “Kudos For Low-Carb” blog located at kudosforlowcarb.blogspot.com. As a certified sports nutritionist and cookbook author, Carol is on the cutting edge of the latest news and information that is relevant to the low-carb lifestyle and keeps her readers informed of important articles that she comes across in her research that reaffirms the benefits of low-carb. Her expertise combined with an honest-to-goodness compassion for her readers makes her blog worth visiting often. Plus you get the bonus of seeing pictures and videos of her adorable son, too!

(Drumroll…Announcer: NUMBER SIX)

We have the first low-carb cooking blog landing in the #6 spot of the countdown with “Kalyn’s Kitchen” featuring South Beach diet success story Kalyn Denny. Her phenomenal and wildly popular blog can be found at kalynskitchen.blogspot.com. Do you think low-carb cooking is drab and boring? Then apparently you’ve never seen some of the delectable low-carb dishes evidenced by the vibrant pictures of Kalyn’s recipes. Her creativity has earned her a lot of respect among food bloggers, which is an amazing accomplishment for a low-carb blog. You hungry? Go to “Kalyn’s Kitchen!”

(Drumroll…Announcer: NUMBER FIVE)

When it comes to low-carb weight loss success stories, none have been more powerful than the man behind the #5 blog. Richard Morris runs “The Free Radical” blog located at breadandmoney.com/thefreeradical. One of the most thought-provoking health blogs you’ll ever read, “The Free Radical” provides a very direct and honest assessment of what has gone wrong with health in America and offers real solutions to those problems. Richard offers up some common sense cures to some of the biggest health issues our country is facing, namely out-of-control obesity, diabetes, and more. He should know as a man whose life was vastly improved after once weighing in at over 400 pounds! Remember the blog–“The Free Radical.”

(Drumroll…Announcer: NUMBER FOUR)

Run by a journalist who also has a brand new book releasing on December 26th, the #4 blog is the refreshing, eye-opening SUGAR SHOCK! blog located online at SugarShockBlog.com. The blog’s author is Connie Bennett who found out the hard way the damage that sugar can do to your body. While never really struggling with a weight problem per se, Connie definitely experienced the mental and emotional highs and lows that come with eating sugar and now serves as the premier voice of sanity in an insane world in the great sugar debate. Always entertaining and never without practical application, the SUGAR SHOCK! blog is a sweet treat that can’t be beat.

(Drumroll…Announcer: NUMBER THREE)

Moving up the countdown to the #3 spot, we come to the blogger most people in the low-carb community universally consider the queen bee of low-carb research blogging online today. It’s Regina Wilshire and her fabulous “Weight Of The Evidence” blog at weightoftheevidence.blogspot.com. Once a victim of the low-fat, low-calorie lie that has failed so many of us, Regina soon discovered the nutrient-dense low-carb lifestyle was better for her and it altered her outlook on a healthy diet forever. Her dogged determination to share the truth about the latest research supporting low-carb living is evident with every high-quality post she writes. If you thought low-carb science was too confusing to understand or painfully difficult to follow, then you really need to take a peek at the “Weight Of The Evidence” blog.

(Drumroll…Announcer: NUMBER TWO)

Only one away from the top spot at #2 is Laura Dolson’s “About Low-Carb Diets” blog at lowcarbdiets.about.com. Part of the gigantic About.com network of topical web sites, Laura provides a well-designed layout featuring excellent low-carb news, research, information, recipes, and so much more! This is by far the best all-around low-carb site on the Internet today because it quite literally caters to everyone, regardless of which level of low-carb they are in. For the person looking for something as basic as “how to do Induction” all the way to the person who wants to know “why is potassium supplementation necessary for me on low-carb,” the “About Low-Carb Diets” blog gives it to you all in one place.

(Drumroll…Announcer: NUMBER ONE)

We’ve save the best for last. The #1 low-carb blog of 2006 is…

(Cymbal crash followed by fanfare music)

Drs. Michael & Mary Dan Eades from Protein Power. That’s right, it’s America’s favorite low-carb couple who simply refuse to throw in the towel on this amazing and proven dietary method. If you visit ProteinPower.com/DrMike, then you can access some of the most controversial, no-holds-barred writings regarding livin’ la vida low-carb that you will find anywhere. The best part is that the information is based on many years of working directly with people who are obese and the diseases that come with it. Dr. Eades has won many a friend and enemy by his willingness to put the facts on the table and let people decide for themselves about what to believe. No fan of the monotonous nutritional recommendations made by America’s government and health leaders, you will find a kindred spirit in this man who has invested his life and career to helping others live a long and healthy life the low-carb way. Likewise, the other Dr. Eades is Dr. Mary Dan Eades who has a blog located at ProteinPower.com/DrMD. She is always prepared to share some outstanding mouthwatering low-carb recipes to help low-carbers enjoy their diet even more. As the cook in the family, Dr. Mary Dan makes sure everyone knows why the Eades are livin’ la vida low-carb for life!
