Hello and welcome back to The Livin’ La Vida Low-Carb Show with Jimmy Moore!

The special guest for today’s interview is Dr. Jonny Bowden, one of the most prolific low-carb writers out there today and a frequent guest on this show. In this episode, Jonny shares about his newest book, a thorough update of an older book, re-christened and expanded as simply Living Low Carb.

This is one heckuva interview! Listen in for a meta-tour of various low-carb dietary approaches, a look at what researchers DON’T look at when conducting pro-carb studies, and much, MUCH more!

  1. Nutrition experts like to argue (like everyone else.) But it seems like there is a growing consensus among a lot of experts who see each other as opponents.

Atkins (eat fat!), Eades (eat protein!), Ornish (eat carbs!), Pollan eat unprocessed food!) have agreed since day 1 that sugar and white flour are bad for us. If people subtract from our diet all the stuff that includes those ingredients, sugar and white flour,
I suspect the effect on our health would be huge, and their disagreements would be smaller in comparison.

  2. Peter, I agree it would be best if all parties involved would forge a partnership to promote just this message. Sadly, the other elements of their personal messages will weave their way into the conversation, so it would never work.

  3. I really enjoyed hearing this podcast with Dr. Jonny. He’s so down to earth and explains things in such a direct, honest manner. I have his first Low Carb book and I’ll be looking for this new one also. I’ve lost 28 pounds since starting my low carb way of live and I’m thrilled! No carvings! Yeah! Thanks so much for bringing the experts to us.

Jonny is one of my absolute favorites and I’m happy to share him and others with you each week.

  4. Dr. Bowden is an excellent guest—plain talk backed up with concrete science. Your podcast with him motivated me to purchase his book from Amazon the very next day.

Keep at this work, Jimmy. You help provide many of us with bedtime, iPod listening that helps spur motivation for yet another day of low carb discipline. Thank you.

He’s pretty amazing which is why I keep having him come back again and again. THANK YOU for your kind words.

  5. Jonny mentioned Walter Willett and I was just wondering, Jimmy, if you have ever tried to get him on your show. I have had some personal contact with Dr. Willett and I believe he is well into the low-carb camp. Plus, as Jonny mentioned, he has taken on the USDA Food Pyramid and some other sacred cows. He would have an interesting perspective, especially given the recent Harvard meta-study exonerating saturated fat.

The following short interview expresses some of his views.

Yep, I’ve tried and he is a BIGGIE! Will keep trying.

  6. I read some on Walter Willett. Lots of good healthy rcommendations. His recommendations differ in the following ways.
    – Healthy fats . He doesn’t like saturated fats (butter).
    – He is big on whole grains.
    – He doesn’t recommend red meats.
