But as the body becomes better able to use the ketones, the overall level will drop to more normal readings.&#8221;<\/em> &#8212; Dr. Adam Nally<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>Here\u2019s what Jimmy and Adam talked about in Episode 24:<\/p>\n<p>&#8211; Is there any such thing as too high ketone levels?<\/p>\n<p><em>I have been strictly keto for almost 3 weeks (between 75-85% fat, around 5% carbs and between 10-15% proteins). I\u2019m a bit concerned because my ketones levels have been between 4.5-6.3. And my glucose levels are 53 and 80.\u00a0 My purpose in being ketogenic is to lose weight. As I understand it, if we go over 3, then you can\u2019t lose weight. But, is this dangerous?\u00a0How can I be between 1.5 and 3?\u00a0Should I eat less fat?\u00a0Should I eat more carbs?\u00a0My eating schedule is eating in the morning (usually 1 can of sardines in olive oil and tea with 1 tbsp of butter and 1 tbsp of coconut oil). Then, around lunch or a bit later I eat fat again (usually 2 tbsp) and then eat at night. What are the effects of drinking alcohol on ketosis?<\/p>\n<p><em>I like to drink a couple of gin and club soda in a nightcap (i.e., not sugar filled drinks). Can a keto approach work even if you can&#8217;t exercise?<\/p>\n<p><em>I have recently developed a heel spur on my right foot and arthritis in my hips. Only being 50, this is very discouraging as I have been exercising regularly the past 4 years to help keep my weight and size down. I am not able to do this now. Chris discussed the impact of long-term low-carb diets on the sex hormones and thyroid hormone via the role of insulin on these hormonal pathways. He outlined that insulin plays a significant role in the production of thyroid and sex hormones in signaling to the body that we are in a sufficient state of energy to be reproducing. This is why he believes there is great risk of low sex hormones on long-term low-carb nutrition.
