I am a Type 1 diabetic and I try very hard to keep my blood sugar at an optimal level between 80-100. But given that my blood sugars can drastically rise for any reason at all (including because of hormones, stress, anything) it is tricky. Here is my question for you: If I am eating very low-carb, moderate protein, and high-fat as we aim to do on a ketogenic diet but my blood sugar rises above 100 because of the challenges of being a Type 1 diabetic, does my body then react to the high-fat intake int he same way as if I had consumed too many carbs and\/or protein? Will this high blood sugar level under this scenario have the same impact on the body? My goal is to be completely keto-adapted all the time, but that\u2019s a challenge with Type 1 diabetes. As a touring musician and singer, the biggest issue I\u2019ve found among my traveling peers is catching a cold. Airplanes, tour buses, late nights, and jet lag all take their toll on our immune systems. Because we have to use our voices for our livelihood, it really sucks when we get that Throat Tickle of Doom. However, I\u2019ve noticed when I REALLY stick with keto while I&#8217;m on the road, I&#8217;ve observed times where everyone else gets sick and I don&#8217;t. If I do feel a cold starting to come on, it\u2019s definitely far less inflammation in my throat in the morning despite long flights and rigorous schedules. Interestingly,, when I&#8217;ve had a night of carb-filled indulgence, I will often come down with a cold the very next day. Is there any evidence that eating a ketogenic diet helps strengthen the immune system against things like the cold, flu, laryngitis, and more? I first went low-carb (via Atkins) in 2008 or so and I bought the pee strips to test for ketosis. While I lost the weight I wanted to lose\u2014about 20 pounds\u2014I allowed carb-creep to set in! Menopause also came along about that time and whammo blammo, I put on nearly 30 pound in the next year. I decided to start eating ketogenic in January and lost weight and inches off my waist with a concerted effort to stay in ketosis for longer periods. But I\u2019ve noticed I am often VERY warm. At first I thought it was hot flashes again which had pretty much stopped for years, but my temperature goes up and stays up. All I found online is that it is possible that fat burning increases body temperature. Do you know if this is true for people who are in a constant state of ketosis?
