I\u2019ve been doing keto since July and I noticed I constantly experienced diarrhea and severe anxiety. I read a book from a doctor in Japan that suggests that people with chronic liver dysfunction should avoid a ketogenic diet because of the high-fat content. I have hepatitis B and have been taking enticavir to control the disease for the past four years. My interest in going keto is to help prevent Alzheimer\u2019s disease which runs in my family. My question for you guys is this: Is a ketogenic nutritional approach appropriate to do for someone with hepatitis B? I don&#8217;t count my carb intake, but I try to only eat carbs from dairy and vegetables on most days. So why is that when I eat extra carbs in my diet it leads to weight loss? How can I tailor my ketogenic approach to properly deal with reactive hypoglycemia?<\/p>\n<p><em>Dear Jimmy and Dr. Cole,<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Thank you for Keto Talk as it has been an amazing source of information and guidance on my keto journey. I used to deal with several hypoglycemia when I ate high-carb, low-fat and I was hoping going ketogenic this year would help with this. While the hypoglycemic episodes have become less frequent, it\u2019s still an issue for me and preventing me from enjoying the freedom from food bondage that seemingly everyone else is experiencing. This issue is so bad I can\u2019t even intermittent fast as I can only go a few hours between meals without feeling the effects of the reactive hypoglycemia kick in. What\u2019s amazing is I don\u2019t usually feel hungry when this happens, but I do get dizzy, light-headed, nauseous, and irritable.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>In my research into this, I discovered the cause of the reactive hypoglycemia is low neurotransmitters (specifically GABA, dopamine, epinephrine and glutamate). I am working with a doctor to fix these underlying issues, but is there anything else I can do to my ketogenic approach to deal with the reactive hypoglycemia? I&#8217;ve been doing low-carb (not keto) for about a year and have noticed I get woozy after eating my evening meals that makes me very tired, unable to concentrate, and feel like I have to lie down lest I fall. My doctor says it\u2019s reactive hypoglycemia and I\u2019ve tried eating sugar to deal with it when it happens and it helps for a while but isn\u2019t the solution to eliminating it. My doctor says I should eat more protein and eat every three hours to prevent this. When I added in more protein it acted very similarly to the sugar not giving me full relief. The best solution I\u2019ve found is when I go to sleep. As for eating every three hours, I\u2019m just not hungry enough to do that. Any insights you guys can share about this?
